I have the knife not the saw. Works great most times I can get and elk done with 2 blades. The hide on the back of the neck will wreck most blades, always do that last.

They work about the same as a Havalon, and the design does make blades harder to break. Cutting hair and against bone kills the blades pretty fast for either one. Make sure you cut from the skin side up through the hair and not down through the hair. Dirt and mud in the hair kills the blade. That helps a lot when you start the skinning process.

If you need to do fine work like caping, I like the Havalon's smaller blade.

+1 for the knife. I don't have the saw, but the knife works well and I prefer it over the Havalon as it's much more durable and the larger size / weight (still not overly heavy) makes it easier to manipulate (IMHO).

I have the 3.5in knife. I really love it and was thinking about buying another just to have for around the house.

Never used the saw.

Thanks for the input gentlemen. I bought one for my son for whitetail but he hasn’t had the opportunity to use it. I think I’ll give it a go . Since I’ve never had the chance to skin an elk, only whitetail, is there any need for the saw?

Definitely not if you go gutless. I'll let uncle Randy explain.

I love the knife but a word of caution- don't let the fat/blood harden on a blade while in the knife. It makes removal a little tough in the field unless you have pliers around. I keep a miniature muti-tool in my pack so it's not a big deal if one gets stuck.

Don't need the saw IMO but the outdoor edge "zipper" blade is awesome.

I have the swingblaze. May use the IW knife this year but I use the swingblaze for butchering sheep at home and love it.

Be careful putting side pressure on the blade. I popped the rivet on the spine that holds the blade. Made the knife useless.

To be honest that was while testing the knife out at work. Not on a game animal.

I Have the 3.5 and like it. It doesn't have the saw or gut blade, gut blade would be nice, but can do without.
I tried the OE and the Havalon last year, they both seemed good, but I like the sturdiness of the OE blades better than the Havalon. The Havalon would probable be better for capeing the head and face.

I bought this one. It's heavy and bulky. Get their "EDC" version instead. The Bonesaw is cool though.

Had to use it to cut my way thru the smaller branches of a downed tree that was blocking the trail at a steep section where trying to go around on the steep slope would be very sketchy.

Been using an OE for years and absolutely love it. After I dull a blade, I can easily resharpen it again on my Work Sharp for more use. Saw they now make a 5" blade that fits, but of course doesn't fold in. Comes with a carrying case. Bought some of the 5" blades to try, imagine they can be pretty handy when cutting big pieces of meat.
