Who did you have make the scaled down version?

I can't say for now, once I'm happy with the form, I plan to offer them for sale in 2 or 3 versions if people are interested. Then I'll mention the collaboration.

The small version is 6¾" long. I'm going to change the gullet on the gut hook a little but it's close.

I’ve evolved over the years. For the longest time I used an old sharpfinger. Then my Dad gave me a skinner a guy he knows made, and finally one my friend made.

I hunt Whitetails. I find that a small, 3ish inch blade and 6 3/4” knife is about just right for them from field dressing to skinning.
To accomplish this you don’t need a big knife, and in some instances it can get in the way that a smaller knife doesn’t.
If I were hunting bigger game then I would have to see what other choices would be better.

This year, it will probably be this one.
2 7/8” blade and 6 5/8” total length, 1084 high carbon steel.

I just picked up the Camalus Skinner (small version) knife on a flash sale for $9 because it was cheaper to add the knife and get free shipping than pay shipping. Having just done 2 black bears with it I was impressed with it especially for its price point. Nearly perfect for handing off to that one moron friend that we all have, a new hunting mentoree, or kid not caring if they abuse it.
I also have a Knives of Alaska ulu knife in my knife roll in my truck for skinning along with a havalon style knife for general gutting and doing capes/faces.

On a side note, do we have any members who make knife handles for sale? looking for some replacement handles for 2 new knives. Micarta preferred.

I've got tons of wood if you wanted to make your own. I know you said micarta, just throwing it out there.

I use a combo of a cold steel Canadian belt knife and a victorinox pairing knife. The belt knife works really well for getting 95% of the hide off and the pairing knife is good for the fine detail work and the flex makes quartering tight to the bone really easy.

I've got tons of wood if you wanted to make your own. I know you said micarta, just throwing it out there.

Appreciate the offer. I recently picked up a laser engraving/cutting machine that can hypothetically cut out and contour wood knife and pistol grips but I have yet to figure out how to do that with it. I need to hire the neighbor's 15 year old kid to give me a tutorial.

42yo Muelay Sabueso for Elk, cows and hogs. 30yo Muela Raccoon for deer. Kershaw caping knife to get around the skull on trophies and one of many Victorinox for deboning/processing. I will say the stag handle is my favorite. No slip with bloody hands and holds an edge all year. Old school Spanish folded steel. You can't buy anymore.

USA made version apparently has better forging. It hold edge better and withstand corrosion.
