Im getting married soon and my brothers are my best man/groomsmen. We all just recently got into hunting and wanted to get them all a solid skinning knife as a present for it. Looking for reccomendations for something fairly high quality, but under $200ish. Bonus if its a leather sheath, but not required.

Special occasion deserves a special knife. If it were me I would be looking to get custom made. there is a few guys on here that do great custom work. I looked for them but I lag, hopefully someone can link them up here. I would also get the recipients name or nick name engraved on the blade. If this won't work for you, check out BladeHQ they have tons of great skinners under $200 and they will do the engraving and it is very reasonable.

If you need help shopping holler, I like spending OPM

Congratulations!!!

My wife got me a bladesmithing class. Made a really high quality knife (I wanted a boning knife). Memory + tool = win

Alternatively, I really like my Canadian belly knives. Good pair with my havalon. I have an MKC Jackstone and it’s great, but my Grohmann is actually slightly preferred. https://grohmannknives.com/index.php/products/outdoor/1-original-design-182-detail

Can check with Erickson Knifeworks if he can squeeze you in

I got a new skinner from https://williamsknife.com/ last year. I also picked up one of their kitchen knives. So far I really like them. seem to be sharp and hold the edge for quite a while. I went with the bright colored scales to make them easy to find if set down. Not as pretty, but a knife is a tool.

Lots of love for the CBK style knives on here. Hereinaz is working on a CBK that might be what you're looking for, but not sure on your timing. https://rokslide.com/forums/threads/help-finalize-the-dixie-zipper-mini-cbk-for-a-group-buy.393007/

You specifically said "skinning" knife. That's something a CBK will do well, but if you're looking for a knife dedicated to that purpose there may be better options. That's not a rabbit hole I've gone down, but I bet if you asked around on the bear forum or trapping they'd have some solid recommendations.

I agree on the Grohmann #1. Not just as a skinner but for all around use. I’ve been trying other knives and keep going back to it.
I also owned a first gen Benchmade Steep Country and it was a nice knife but doesn’t match the ergonomics of the Grohmann #1.
They’re not overly fancy but they are affordable, extremely useable, and come with a leather sheath.

They aren’t anything fancy but an ESEE 3 or ESEE 4 are great all around knives. I’ve used the same ESEE 3 for over a decade and it’s my go to. They have some models with different metal but mines the good ol 1095. Can’t be beat as far as I’m concerned.
