Sitka zip off bottom base layer

So this wasn't my idea originally, my brother gave me the idea. There are a couple options for zip off bottoms, but I have a pair of Sitka core heavyweight that I thought would work So I bought some #3 42" one way separating zippers. Cost like $10 for the pair. There's a seam that runs down the side of the pants I cut. It stayed together I didn't have to do anything to it

Sewing the zipper was a little more tricky than I thought it would be. The material stretched and the zipper doesn't. So I just tacked it every couple inches before I sewed it solid. That worked pretty good. Pretty happy with how it turned out. They work pretty slick

Had the same idea myself but to chicken to try. Does the Zipper you put in rub on your legs on the inside of the pants?

Nice work. Love the side zippers in my FL Kiln’s. Can’t imagine this not working either. Wish I’d made the move to side zips sooner.

I haven't used them much obviously, but from what I've worn them it doesn't seem to be an issue. The zippers sewed so it lays flat. Also the pants are pretty snug so they don't move around much.
