I'm trying to be as minimalist as possible here trying to cut weight. For those of y'all that have done it before can I get by with the long sleeve core lightweight shirt or should I go with the core midweight zip-t? The zip t seems heavier and warmer but I don't know how important that's gonna be early season.

I don't want to have to carry in lbs of extra clothing

I got by last year with a zip t similar to the sitka. Reached 75 with sun and now that shirt is for October and on. Replaced it with a light merino.

The Sitka Core Midweight Zip-T is going to be pretty warm compared to the Sitka Core Lightweight Crew Top- Long Sleeve. If you are going to be super active in the back-country in the early season I would suggest the Core Lightweight over the mid-weight.They are both great pieces but are going to serve two different purposes.

As a backpack hunter lightweight is always a priority but comfort in the ever changing conditions of the high-country is also a main concern. I don't think it would be a terrible idea to sacrifice and bring both the Midweight Zip-T and the Core Lightweight Crew on these type of hunts. If the temperatures stay below 70 degrees then I would probably opt for just the Midweight Zip-T. Otherwise I would bring both as the temperatures can widely vary throughout the hunt.

I hope this helps with your dilemma.

Man that's great info, thank you for posting it up. I'd hate to get in there and not have what I need to deal with the conditions. A few oz isn't worth being uncomfortable over.

Jaker_cc Not a problem, I've been in that situation and decided to save the ounces against my better judgement and it bit me in the butt when a storm rolled in and the temperature dropped into the 30's. Good luck on your hunt and let me know if you need anything at all.

I have all of the weight (light, mid, heavy, and traverse) Sitka shirts and while they all have a place and a time where they are ideal if I had to leave one out it would be the midweight. Its just a bit too hot for anything where you are moving a lot over about 55° but not really warm enough for much lower than that. My favorite is definitely the lightweight. It breathes super well and dries fast so you can wear it even when its quite hot. It's also a great base layer if you want to add a vest or traverse or something over it.

I used a lightweight, traverse, Jetstream vest, and lightweight puffy last year (Oct-Nov) in CO with temps varying between 20 and 75 and felt it was the perfect layering system for me. Wore the lightweight the entire time and just added as needed.
