Anyone know the reasoning behind not putting a hood on the Mountain Jacket? Seems like a brilliant piece but it seems that they left out the part that keeps the most heat from being lost due to the wind. There must be a reason someone knows about.

In a word...weight. That is a pretty minimalist jacket...no pit zips, no fancy anything on it really. It's meant to be a lightweight wind blocking layer that packs small and light so that it goes everywhere.

I bought mine with sort of a "what the heck" attitude thinking if nothing else it would provide full arm coverage when its warm and buggy and it quickly became essential kit for every single trip. Im hearing impaired and thus hate hoods as they pretty much cancel out any remaining ambient hearing that I have. Only my raingear has a hood and I rarely use it.

I bought one but it was a catch and release for me. Never fielded it but by the time I started thinking about my gear for this year, it just didn’t work for me without the hood, so I am selling it. I am a big fan of hooded garments but between my jetstream and some other pieces it just didn’t seem to fill a role.

I would buy another if they put a hood on it.

I bought one mainly to wear as a wind block on my motorcycle under my mesh jacket. It works great for that I got caught in the rain the other day and my core stayed dry but the rest of me was soaked. I’m also going to use it over my mid layer during this hunting season. Hopefully it helps. I’ll get to field it for hunting this coming weekend I’ll know if it has a place then. Not worried about a good because I wear a waterproof hat and have other layers with hoods.

I really like mine but thinking about getting rid of it because of no hood. Wouldn't mind having wind/water protection for the head without needing even more gear, but I wasn't thinking that far ahead when I bought it lol.

Im thinking I might just bridge the gap with a Jetstream beanie and a neck gaiter. Probably more versatile also.

I was about to buy the Mountain but ended up getting the Timberline jacket. It's basically the same thing except with a hood and light fleece on the shoulders and sleeves. It was an awesome second layer piece on a Northwest Territories sheep hunt earlier this fall -- stopped the wind and held up in light rain. I love hoods which is why I went with it over the Mountain. Sitka must be coming out with a new version next year because it's since come off their website, but you can find them with a good discount online. It's honestly my favorite mountain hunting jacket.

I really liked mine but the zipper went out after a couple seasons. I still use my mountain vest a lot.

The Timberline jacket weights a bit more, but it has a hood. I really liked mine, great wind blocker with a bit of insulation. Definitely heavier at 18-19ozs than the Mt Jacket, but worth it to me for the hood.

If your zipper went out, I'd call Sitka. They will either repair or replace it if you still have it...

So I thought that Sitka redid the mountain jacket and added a hood, but looking at the website it doesn't look like it. Has any of the guys on here tried on the women's version? It has a hood. I just wonder if it would fit odd.

Ive been wearing the mountain jacket for the past two seasons and really like the weight of it... but damn it needs a freaking hood!
