they should probably fix their description, buying a 30 degree bag only to find out it’s a 40 degree bag might upset someone :D
Lol, exactly. That's why when everyone kept saying 30 degree bag I was like "where are they getting that? It doesn't show that on their own page" . It's like tent sizing

I emailed Sitka and said the bag averages 38 degrees for comfort, as the bottom of the bag is printed- probably should fix the product page description where it has 30 degree comfort

I also asked what the Primaloft Gold fill was and they said 130 g/m2- that very closely jives with a ~ 40 degree rating

While I don’t think I’d use this as a standalone sleeping bag (maybe early September) it would make a good addition to a daypack for long hunts, giving you a good option for glassing and an emergency bag for an unplanned night out

What are your thoughts on using this in conjunction with midlayers or a down quilt for getting down to 0 deg?

even mid layers + puffies aren't going to get this bag to 0; a down quilt of 30-40 degrees would imo

the question is- is there enough room for a 30-40 degree down quilt underneath without squashing the loft of the quilt???

Im figuring a quilt/down blanket on top of the aerolight rather than under that was i can still get up and walk around for morning warmups

if the quilt is cut wide/long enough, yup that would work :)

personally when combining bags/quilts, I prefer to have the syn on the outer and the down on the inner- moisture keeps moving outward throughout the night and if it's deposited in the syn layer it can better handle the extra moisture vs down

Yeah, if you want something that takes you down to 0, get a different bag

id rather put together a scaleable system rather than owning 3+ bags
Nothing wrong with that, but that Aerolite bag doesn't have the dimensions to do what you're looking for. You need a bag with more internal volume to allow you to wear insulated clothing inside of it without compressing all the insulation. There are better starting points for that kind of system.

The bag should have the internal dimensions for layering given they posted recommended layers for lower temps on their site right?

I'd give Sitka a call; clearly it has room for a few puffy layers (dependent at least somewhat on a person's size), but it might be tight with an additional bag or quilt.

They should have a good idea; worse case- buy it to try with the intended combo in your home, if it doesn't work- send it back

The one I tried out, FOR ME, no way I'm trying to take that thing down into super cold temps. If you like sleeping in 6 different layers, then it may be just what YOU are looking for. Sitka is in the business of selling you stuff. Of course this fits their model.

Like TNF The One bag system? 40deg bag shell, 20 deg bag shell, combined for a 5 degree bag. Zip on, zip off, take what you need.

Id really only plan on sleeping in whatever insulating layers I had been wearing that day. As far as selling stuff, i'd assume most businesses are in the business of selling things

Now thats something to keep an eye out for

Yes I’m very interested in. Want to say all in weight is like 2.8 fully configured. And it’s around 400 bucks.

I saw a post about it a month or so ago.

3lb 12oz in regular, 4lbs in long, where the hell are you getting 20 lbs? Your system you configured for 3 times the price is almost the exact same weight lol.

Light, warm, cheap... you can pick 2 when it comes to bags. BA has never come close to hitting temp specs for me.
