Contacted Sitka Gear yesterday regarding a dew point set that wets out. Went through the automated warranty request online and got the shipping labels today. They are having me ship the set to Rainy Pass Repair in NC, and after contacting them, it appears that all they are going to do is apply a DWR to the jacket and pants. I could be wrong, but I don't think the dew point had a DWR to begin with and is a laminante fabric.

Any body have any experience with this? If the DWR application will return the set to prior performance, which was great, I'll be happy, but I'm thinking this is just a band aid when the real remedy would be a replacement.

Nice timing. I just got the jacket and pants back today. No idea what they did, and never got an email on anything. I’ll give them a test in the next rain we get and see how it goes.

I sent in a jacket in for zipper. Zero communication. Got it back appears to have a new zipper. Would be nice to know what they did?

All rain gears wets out. Rain jackets dont get their waterproofness from the dwr’d face fabric. They still function. Apply dwr if water beading up for the first few hours of rain matters to you

All waterproof breatheable fabrics have a dwr applied at the factory. The dwr is critical for proper function of the fabric. If the face fabric wets out, it prevents it from breathing and you wet out from the inside due to normal perspiration, even if you arent “sweating”. The dwr is what allows the fabric to breathe even in the rain, and its what prevents you from feeling like youre wearing a plastic bag.
The new pfas-free dwrs have been problematic for several years, so sometimes batches of fabric have wet out more than they are supposed to. The solution in this case appears to be recoating with an aftermarket dwr, which may or may not last.
