Sitka Ascent Pants Review, By Mike Moore

Have
I’ve never used the Intercept, so can’t honestly say.

I did find out that there is a new pant to replace the Ascent, the Mercury.

Sounds like I’ll be sent a pair when they are available; hoping it’s just an upgraded Ascent—we’ll see.
You see those mercury pants yet? They're on sale now but I'm not sure what rhe pocket layout is since the sitka site doesn't show it

I can't imagine they would be bad, but the ascent is my favorite pant all around and if they are an improvement I'll get them asap for this fall. I have a bunch of fun hunts coming to try them on

I've got a pair coming. I see they don't offer 33 or 35 waists anymore (all mine were 33) so have a 34 coming.

If they're identical to the Ascents in regards to fabric and fit, but w/ side vents—I'll be a happy camper :)

I sure hope so. I did see dwr treated as well. Interested to see if that hurts breathability or not

I’ll be surprised if Sitka doesn’t find a way to make the new version worse, as they have with other products in their lineup in the last few years. All the Ascent pants needed were some hip vents and they’d be the ultimate early season pant. Hopefully mine last me another 5 or so years.

According to the website pics, they skipped the hip vents. I thought they were finally on that train, disappointing as ascent with hip vents would be perfect. I love my ascent pants and was ready to get some mercury's if they had hip vents. But now I don't think it's worth it. (They are on the cheaper end of Sitka's new pants, though. Same price as old ascent)

^ I think you're right. I saw the cargo pockets were moved to the front, I thought this was due to having side vents, but from the few pics I've seen, not so.

That's why I bought another pair. I can't see a way to improve them except maybe a back pocket for me, but thats it. I love them and I am sad they will be gone. I shouldn't but I lilely will have to buy another pair

There are no hip vents. I called and asked at first he said “yes, they have hip vents”. But after asking if they were separate from the mesh pocket he said no, the fabric is so light the pockets are sufficient and they didn’t need hip vents like the new Endure pant. He said the material is very similar to the ascent pant but they have the mesh pockets… but the ascents also have mesh pockets. This seems like a copy of the Ascent with a new name. I wear the ascents all early season so these are great but wish they had real hip vents. Excited to try the endures with the hip vents after early season.

Agreed. I guess I have the guard pants that have the hip vents as a good early season pant. But i like my ascents more, they are literally bombproof, I did pick up some endure pants. They seem like they will be a great all arounder. A little lighter than the old mountain pant
