I working on getting a few Sitka subalpine for September mullys in elk . Most my hunting is archery below 9,000 ft. I have the core light weight hoodie and mountain pant. I also own most the white tail line, for that reason I trying to get as few items as i can. So looking at my next layer over the core light weight hoodie. I looked at the apex hoodie and its nice, But i wondering how the merino will wear. This second layer will probably be my outer layer most of the time. I be unable to look at the traverse zip T in person . Hows the fit compare to the base layer is it a more relaexed fit? how it wear . I also looked at the core heavy weight but thinking it might be to warm. what our your thoughts on the apex hoodie and traverse zip tee . I also open for other suggestion But trying to stick to the subalpine pattern

I wear a base layer and my Traverse Zip T as my outer layer most of the year unless it gets really cold or windy. I don't like any of the Apex series at all. I use the Mountain Pants also.
I think the Traverse Zip T is similar in fit to the baselayers maybe a slight bit looser. I like it and plan to get another one or two in Subalpine.
I get hot easily when hiking and only wear the Zip T on descents or easy uphill climbs. It holds the heat well for my use.

I would look into the mountain jacket for your next layer personally it has the gore wind stopper and a dwr finish to it to stop the little mountain rain that you might see in the September hunts in the timber. But the apex hoody and the traverse zip t fit about the same and have the same cut as your core lightweight hoody.
I waiting for you video on the new mountain jacket. I am understanding its been redesigned ?

We are getting the video put together, and should be coming out by Friday or Monday of next week. I will tell you this the new 2019 mountain jacket has YKK zippers, and GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ with WINDSTOPPER®

I have that apex hoodie and I think they absolutely nailed it for September.

I sometimes pair it with the mtn vest if there is a little wind, but I’m usually moving not glassing. I keep a puffy and that flash pullover for stops and wind/moisture.

You can’t cheat the mountain

Thanks for everys ones input. After getting both side by side i went with the apex Hoodie . I am still thinking of adding mountain jacket But like to wait see how noisy the new version is.
