Single Shot Break Action Rifle and Vertical Stringing

I’ve got a Traditions Outfitter G3 break action in 300 AAC.

Subsonics group nice and tight all day, but when I shoot Hornady 110 grain VMax handloads at 2350 FPS, it will group two-three shots sub MOA and the next two shots will be close together but almost 4 MOA higher at 100 yards.

I’m going to test tomorrow to see if the system doesn’t like a hot barrel. I’m ok if it’s a 2-3 shot rifle. It’s a woods hunting gun so no plans to shoot more than 1-2 rounds anyways.

Anyone have vertical stringing issues with single shot, center fire break actions like TC, CVA or Traditions?

Very interesting.

I have a CVA Scout in 6.5, but have not shot it suppressed. With hand loads, I average around 1” at 100 with 5 shot groups.
That being said, I’m curious if the barrel harmonics change with the suppressor & supers as the barrel begins to heat up?

I did have an instance one July while shooting a quicker shot sequence, where I noticed group sizes progressively being to increase; Now the group size increase could easily be attributed to my shooting form breaking down as the sweat, mosquitoes and humidity began to wear me down mentally.
- I haven’t been able to replicate that, so I believe it to have been my shooting form breaking down and not the rifle heating up.

I think it’s harmonics and heat. I’ll need to do another ladder and try again.

I'd bet it's the scope. something about that combo jarring the scope's zero. It's almost perfectly vertical and incremental.
try a scope known to hold zero?
