Anyone going after it this year?
A buddy and I are heading out from Florida and hitting AR, OK, NE. I’ve got Osceolas and Rio’s under my belt, just needing that Eastern and Merriam. Is it just me or are those Merriam white tips the best looking?

Drew a couple of tags here in FL just looking to my first longbeard and one for my son. Would like to her after some Meriams in the future, when’s the season for them typically?

Season depends on location. South of SR 70 season opens next weekend which is pretty much from Okeechobee south which is all Osceola’s. North of 70 opens on the 19th. Little north of central FL is where you start getting a lot of Osceola/Eastern hybrids and “supposedly” straight Easterns in N FL and the Pan Handle.

Where did you end up drawing? I’m families with a lot of the WMAs. If it’s one I know I will help you out.

Was wondering when the seasons were for Merriams would be nice to get into the mountains when it starts getting hot here.

Drew a youth hunt for my son at Camp Blanding and one for myself at Matanzsas. Appreciate the offer! Any tips on areas to apply for next year would be appreciated too. Would like to go farther south and chase true Osceolas

No Florida for me, I always hit convenient states and Florida just isn't even close to convenient. Someday probably will but I can hunt a pile of states Mid. April to mid May very conveniently.

Likely kill 3 of the 4 species, for sure Merriam's and Eastern's

I live in New Mexico but from Illinois, so I just time a visit to family in the Midwest during turkey season!

As of now hitting CO. NM. IA. MO. MI. IN. and possibly WI. and WY. depending on how things go.

Many of the seasons for Merriam's run till the end of May! I killed my Colorado bird on may 31st last year! birds were tight lipped where I was though!

Good luck boy's!

Ya my buddy and I considered NM and I’d really like to hit it. Maybe next year. We went to CO and stayed in Buena Vista and got our asses kicked. Ran into a game warden and she told us where we could find birds, we found them, but they were all on private. IMO we were way to early. I think we go in there opening day or a few days after.

Heading to south Florida in a few weeks for an Osceola hunt. I grew up in north Florida and have killed several turkeys north of the imaginary line that had some Osceola traits, but you’re probably not killing a true Osceola till you’re south of I-4.
I went to South TX last year and shot Rios. They were a blast to hunt, very vocal and cooperative. Neat hunting that Mesquite country.
Id like to do a Black Hils hunt for Merriams. Shoot one in WY then scoot across the line and shoot one in South Dakota.

Where abouts are you heading in SFL? You get drawn, private, outfitter?

I’d say so. I live right next door in MS and 2 years ago the day before their season I drove over to a public area not too far across the state line to scout and their were more trucks than a Ford Dealership lurking around. Pair the immense pressure with a mid April start date and some of the lowest bird density’s in the southeast and I’d say your in for a good time.

I tried the single season slam last year and doubled up on all of them except for the RIO. Had 1st morning in Texas and passed him because of some brush and didn't get another chance. Was only missing the Merriams for the slam so happy I got that one. Had a blast and want to try it again soon.

Shot an Osceola last week.

One of these days I will learn to post these pictures upright.

Here's a buddies and mine from Nebraska about 10 years ago. He doubled up on our trip. I was on able to squeeze one out of there. He used to do single season slams all the time. I never had the time or money to follow him across the country. My dad did it with him one year.
Arkansas was never on his list of states to hunt and I know as of three years ago he was some where around 100 birds. facebook_-768774691.jpg
