Hunting Southwest Alaska for Brown Bear in the blueberries late September into October. Guide is strongly suggesting wading pants versus waders.

I'm pretty much down to the Sims G3 versus the freestone. There's a $200 difference and a weight differences as well.

Anyone have a recommendation one way or the other?

Thanks

I used freestones on a SE AK black bear hunt. They worked perfectly then(2021) and still have them and will be used on a moose hunt this fall. To me, for hunting use they are a better value. If inwere buying today, it would be the freestone z chest waders, cheaper and have a zipper, I see no need for g3 or g4.

I use G3s for trout fishing (actually, might be the 4s). They're pretty thin compared to my duck hunting waders. If I was going trekking through the brush in Alaska, I htink I'd want something a little thicker.

I would not recommend freestones for any serious use, seem to be pretty lucky to get a season of light trout fishing out of them here. G3 seems to do pretty well. I have had the best luck with the Orvis Pro waders but they are a lot thicker than the simms I’ve tried. Tbh though you will likely tear up any wader going through rough enough brush.

I've had G3s since 2019 and they have been great, I got the g4z now which is way better. Id avoid the freestone, seen lots develop leaks quickly.
