Any correlation to failures on direct thread vs QD mounts like the ASR or the Thread Over Mount (TOM)? Planning to use mine with the TOM on 6.5 cm and 300 wsm.

Sorry if this has already been hashed out. A couple searches didn't lead me to much.

Well, whenever I’m feeling down I know I can hop on this thread and feel worse.

I finally got my Scythe to the range last weekend after building back up the rifle in the new Rokstok. Only 40 rounds while sighting in, so I’ll wait to vote until I get another hundred or so down the tube.

I did keep the 6.5x55 barrel at 20” rather than the initially planned 19”, and left the 6.5PRC barrel I have uncut, in the safe, and possibly for sale.

Loved shooting the can. Hate having my fingers crossed while shooting; screws up my form.

I haven't got one yet but my plan was to exclusively it on a .30-06 also. Let me know how yours goes
Following. Will be using on factory Tikka T3X superlite 30-06. First range session coming up on Monday. Currently I only shoot factory loads.

I used mine on my 30-06 with no issues but stopped and went back to my TBAC after this thread started rolling. It worked great, if just got scared after seeing all the failures.

Add me to the list of failures. I've put a couple hundred 300prc through it, maybe 400 6creed, and exactly 12 25western through it. Blew on my last test load of 66.5gr H1000.

Pretty pissed about it because now I have a 1200 can that I have no confidence in. Also pissed about my suppressor cover. Hopefully they will help me out there.

I found one baffle but couldn't locate the rest of it in the shin high grass.

22" 300prc
18" 6 creed
18" 25 western
Stock anchor brake

Damn! Sorry to hear that. Hopefully they'll replace your cover as well.

You still have the S/N part so they should warranty it quick. I know the feeling of having an expensive can repaired and always thinking not if but when . Sucks

There's a spreadsheet in this thread somewhere. Did you add your specifics to it?

Can you add what barrel lengths you have for each of those rifles? Also anchor brake vs flat end cap?

Sure sucks to find this thread after buying one over a DA.

Hope this is something silerenco has dealt with
They are fixing them. I’d argue inconclusive if it’s an issue in the manufacturing that’s been resolved based on what we are seeing.

That said I believe “most” would agree it’s still a solid can…but it has similar length/power limitations as other cans (maybe add 2” to be safe). If I were marketing (based on what I’ve watched in this thread), I’d say:

Magnums: 24” min (this kinda sucks)
308 case: 16” min
Else: who knows no real shorty data here.

Again mine still going strong on 20” wsm but like most it makes me nervous. I’ll probably swap in my TI XT on the wsm once it arrives and leave the scythe on the non mags.

Im just not entirely sure how much of the length is the issue - or just weld failures that expose over pressure cycles.

One thing though, i dont plan to go too short. Id like one of my rifles (6.5/308) chopped to have an 18 inch barrel, no intent to shorten my 26" magnum, and dont plan to ever shoot anything at 16 inch except 5.56/223.

Barrel length will increase pressure, making the pressure, meaning at the very least one will accelerate the failure. There should be a point were pressure is too low to stress the welds. I'm hoping a 16.5 inch 223 is below that point, but will keep my AB Raptor 8 on bigger stuff.

My shooting volume is down the past 6 months, but that 223 will get several thousand rounds through it, I'll see if I can blow one up on a bolt 223 over the next year or so.

Using a Hanson Brothers 223 end cap.

I do find it interesting that the failure is not at the first baffle, as I would think that weld sees the most pressure.

Adding my No vote to capture my initial use.

140 rounds through the 6.5x55, 20” barrel, mostly 147gr over N565 (116 rounds) with a 24 being 120gr over N555.

All good wrt infant failure for my can/rifle combo, but I’ll keep updating periodically as rounds go down range.
