I wait to install sight tape until no other variable will change. This doesn't prevent you from practicing at any distance you want. It just takes a few more shots to mark up a blank or calibration tape to do so. This is a far lower cost than the emotional and mental anguish of thinking "i'm good to go" and slapping a tape on. Then denying that you're not really good to go, losing arrows, changing things on your bow, yelling at the neighbors dog, etc.
