In my research for a new rangefinder I came across the Sig Sauer Kilo 2000. The specs sound pretty impressive for the price and the reviews I've found on Opticsplanet and Eastman's are positive. It was also on the Field and Stream's best of 2015 list.

I'd still like to hear some real world experience from fellow roksliders if possible. How does it compare to the Leica's and the Vortex Ranger 1000? Any complaints? I did a quick search on the forum and couldn't find anything yet, maybe an official review sometime this year would be helpful.

There was a guy who posted about it a few days ago. His thread is still on the 1st page here. Not many replies back, doesn't seem like many people own them yet. Most on here are pro Leica for a rangefinder.

Whoops, I don't know how I missed that. I guess he had kilo2000 as one word so my search didn't pick it up. I'll check it out, thanks.

Anyone know if the unit itself is waterproof? I know the optics are, but I'm concerned about the entire unit and electronics. The Leica's are good down to 1 meter. Not that I want to test it out, but I did accidentally drop my Leica in the drink once and it was perfectly fine.

That's a good point, the Sig Sauer website (Link in OP) shows an IPX-4 rating. My understanding is that basically means it's splash proof (fine to use in the rain). IPX-7 is where you get to submersible up to 3 ft. for at least a half hour. I'd prefer an IPX-7 rating but odds are I won't ever need it. Still, that's something to consider, glad you brought it up.

That's unfortunate and might likely be a reason I go with the Leica 1600B. My 1200 is fine, but I need some angle compensation data. Either that, or really bite the bullet and get the Swaro EL Range bino's.

I ran a kilo2000 this year and as far as ranging functions go, it worked just fine. However, I've ran a Leica 1000r quite a bit too and I'll tell you right away you're going to notice a big difference in glass quality. Seemed to me that everything through the sig appeared to be tinted blue/green as well as a loss of light transmission. When looking in the general direction of the sun, it produced a good bit of glare to where I couldn't really even see my target. But if you need a rangefinder with rapid/continuous readings, you'll be hard pressed to find a faster unit.

That's good feedbank, thanks. I figure I can get by with lesser glass on a rangefinder as I'll always have my binos with me that have a bit more magnification and clarity anyway. So my main concerns are fast, accurate ranging. It sounds like this unit will do that. If the were the same price I'd probably lean towards the Leica, but with the price difference I'm currently leaning toward getting one of these.

Can't say that's a bad call. You'll be pretty impressed with how fast it operates and the distances it's capable of, especially for the price! If I remember correctly, on a day with good, clear conditions, I got a range on a mulie that plus of 1300 yards... which I believe is beyond what they claimed for soft target ranging capabilities. Under promise and over deliver? Either way, good luck!

I reviewed my kilo a week or 2 ago, and I do agree that the sig has a blueish tint to the optics which I said reminded me of the first series of Leica Geovid binoculars. I UPGRADED from my Leica CRF 1200 to the kilo, and so far It has been a great move. I feel the sig actually has "crisper" or better clarity than my leica did. The leica is brighter tho, and as far as ranging goes, the Sig blows my CRF 1200 out of the water in every category.

HuntHarder, does the sig have angle comp from 10 yards out? I'm curious if it's bowhunting friendly, thanks! I'm thinking about picking one up, they sound great!

ive heard there is a new vortex rangefinder coming out at the shot show... might want to stay tuned for that one

Yeah it angle comps at close range. I just checked it in my house, and in the LOS (line of sight) mode, it gives me a range of 5.3 yards at a 21* angle. In the AMR ( angle modified range) it gives me 4.9 yards.

I just got one and have played with it a bit, my only rangefinder to compare it to is a 4 year old bushnell 1000. This rangefinder is absolutely insane in comparison. The speed, clarity, weight, brightness and distance it is capable of blows my mind. I got mine from savinglots.com for 404 i think and it was delivered a couple days later. So far the furthest I've measured was Alcatraz from a boat at 2055 while underway. Pretty much anything under 1400 so far has been measured faster than I can realize I pushed the button
