Sig Kilo link to Kestrel 5700?

Has anyone practiced linking their Sig Kilo rangefinders to their Kestrel. Does the Sig update the hold over calculations based on the Kestrel's atmospherics or do you have to pull out the Kestrel after ranging to see the holdover solution? If the Kestrel must be viewed in a second step I have trouble imagining this working in NRL or a real hunting scenario. Thoughts?

Yes. Shot a comp with it out to 900 yds and used a good amount since then. It can pull live or you can use local or input values. I use live and have had good success.

Maybe said another way, the sig will mirror what’s on the kestrel.

I’ll add using the onboard sensors on the sig, my DA is usually 500’ or so off the kestrel but it hasn’t resulted in a miss in the distances I shoot and I like it at a backup.

My unit won’t range past 800 without being paired to kestrel.

That's super helpful. So to be clear, if I update my kestrel and then set it aside I could see the correct holdovers on just the Sig without needing to pick up the Kestrel again? I realize this assumes the atmospherics haven't changed. Does the sig show the wind correction too or just elevation correction?

I leave kestrel in my backpack pocket or hanging. As long as it’s on and paired it’s good. I believe the process goes, range to kestrel, kestrel pushes dope back to sig (don’t quote me there though).

I can’t recall about the wind but I do think so.

Fwiw I am using the 6k 8x30s. Love em.

Yes, it shows in the Sig and Kestrel.

It’s nice to have it in the Kestrel, because the Sig goes to sleep, but the last solution says on the kestrel or Garmin.

It’s very nice, because you can look down at the Kestrel when you write the dope on a card and don’t need as much mental energy/focus to remember. Especially if you are ranging multiple the targets at once.

When the timer goes “beep” I revert to the working memory of our ancestral squirells.

In the instant while the solution is being calculated calculated, you can look down to the card/kestrel. Feels faster. A pocket for the kestrel to keep handy and hands free is nice. My Garmin is on my wrist next to my wrist coach and wax pencil or sharpie.

If you are with a partner, they can range and you can see the Kestrel.

Sig will give wind in the display based upon the wind value input into my Garmin, and I think it is the same for Kestrel if you set it up that way.

I use my “gun number” for wind so I don’t pay attention to it in the Sig. Plus, you have to wait for it to cycle through.

My brain hates that under the time.

I think it mirrors wind from kestrel. Now what you have/how you have the kestrel set up for that is a different story.

I could be wrong, but I thought it pushed wind from Kestrel. I just always pair my Garmin for dope.

By the way, the Garmin watches with ballistics and the Tempe dongle are freaking amazing… if you want to drop the dough.

The watch is in my Santa Clara list. 🤞
