Sierra Heavy TMK 6MM Testing

Loaded up a ladder of N555 with the 116’s. 41 grains - 43.5 grains. 20 thou off the lands. 43.5 grains shot 2800 out of 18” barrel. It’s a new barrel with only a few shots in it. No pressure signs at 43.5. Gonna load up 20
at 42 grains and shoot them at 100 and at distance to see how they shoot. Looks like they are gonna shoot awesome!

Alpha brass SRP
Cc 450 primers
2.89 col

Tikka action chambered in 6 creedmoor with Bartlien 18” barrel 1:7.5” twist.

This is exciting. Have a Tikka being re chambered to a 6creed with the exact same plan for load.

Did you measure what that is for jump in your chamber? Assuming SAAMI chamber?

The tips on the TMK’s are less than impressive IMO. These are the 116’s. Tip on the left is raised slightly, canted to the right and where the jacket meets the tip is also crooked.

They still shoot decent, but nothing spectacular. But you can’t expect anything extraordinary with tips wobbling at 260,000 RPM’s. 42.5gr. N555 gave 3010fps from a 26” 6 creed at 2.920” COAL.

There is a rabbit hole to dive into. Most likely has an effect, but how much? Thanks for the heads up, will keep an eye out for this.

Agreed for sure. Cause a miss on an animal at moderate distances? Unlikely.

I had one bullet land 1.5” outside the group. That’s not normal for this gun. I didn’t look at that specific tip, so I’ll never know. But it would be a slow road to build long range confidence with this type of quality. At least for me personally. If I can see imperfections in concentricity with my naked eye, that just doesn’t sit well with me when trying to get good data at long range.

I agree the new tmk's don't have typical sierra quality.
That’s all I have experience with from sierra currently, but I’m not over the moon. I’ll probably spend more time with these 116’s but the bullet quality is absolutely nothing special. They shot well enough for shooting random shit though. Maybe have my daughter use them on a deer.

My box of 116s came in today. I pulled out 2 of them to make measurements, and one of them looked just like the "off" bullet in @huntnful photo. I'll go through the box at some point and pull out some off-looking ones and shoot them for a group against a group of "good" looking ones, but definitely going to be selective when loading anything meaningful.

I've shot piles of the 77s and 130s and their consistency has been great. Better than ELDM for me.

Iv seen similar with different lots of ELDs. Had one lot so bad I sent it to Hornady. They told me the tip has minimal impact on the precision but did replace that lot of bullets for me.
