Sierra Heavy TMK 6MM Testing

I genuinely think a 107 6 creed load is realistic and would be enough for me. That arc would be nuts for AR world though
I would like to do a 107 TMK at 6mm ARC bolt action pressure. Should be able to get 2600+ from a 16" based on what can be done with 108 ELDM and 108 EH and a bolt action 6mm ARC. Should kill right nicely.

Remember this is culling. Not hunting.

If you just hit ribs, it’s good- very effective.
If you hit bone, very likely you won’t like it.

2,100’ish FPS impacts. Photos and animals are unmodified.

Quartering too- shot entered center chest… How we walked up to it. A 9-10” wound.

Facing directly away. 2,105fps impact. Entered center of rear ham- 10+ inch hole. TC blew stomach out mid belly, bullet traveled all the way through the chest and through the heart. Everything inside body cavity was wrecked.

Yes. It’s effective.

Nothing definitive at 1,800fps they are devastating.

They’re all messy.

No.

-3,000ft DA. 1-7.5” twist for most of the guns.

Thank you for the reply. Have you, or anyone else, tested them in a 1:8” twist Tikka? Do they stabilize in it? Or need a faster twist?

I’ll shoot a Tikka 1-8” 243win this week. But yes, they will work in a 1-8”. I can’t imagine how they wouldn’t.

The 88gr .224 however, did not work at -3,000ft DA from a 16” 1-8” twist 223. grin

Got one with the ol’ Texas Heart shot…purely for science and testing purposes 😉

Broadside and quartering shots all look pretty consistent from what’s been posted so far. Any outliers of note?

Only works with magnums and high weight retention bullets….

Nope. Lots and lots of damage from 2,800-1,800fps. I think only one 116gr TMK didn’t exit.

The only real noteworthy thing was the difference between the TMK’s and the 103gr ELD-X. The 103gr ELD-X is a good bullet, and on its own, anyone would have been just fine with the wound channels it produced. But, doing so side by side it was plainly obvious the difference between it and the TMK’s. Significantly larger wounds from the TMK’s, with more tissue damage to organs, and all the ELD-X shot deer ran except one that was spinned and it was still alive an hour later when we got to it.

Is anyone likely to have these in factory loadings?
First guess would’ve been Sierra but I think they stopped selling loaded cartridges under their own name and Federal is moving away from the MK for their GMM line so who knows.

Barnes maybe and then someone like Fiocchi would be my guess.

I mean Barnes and Sierra are the same company and we’ve seen TGK offerings from Barnes so maybe they will listen this go around

I think it’s likely but I also think that since Barnes already has a “match” line loaded with MB’s, any TMK offering would almost have to be labeled as an ultra-premium match and cost $70/box.

Which is fine, way better than nothing, just not ideal for anybody who wants to shoot a lot of factory ammo.

Last time I bought 6mm Barnes 112 matchburners it was $29 a box. I can’t see it being $70 a box, but to be fair I haven’t looked for Barnes ammo in a minute

This made my pants move just a little bit. That big of a wound channel with legit pass through ability is exactly what I've been after. If the 88s perform the same, I will be impressed and building out a 22cm instantly.

What sort of neck length are we talking about here on average before the wild disruption starts?

They have it listed at $48.99 on their website, and retail is about $40/box today.

$70 might be an exaggeration, sure, but the point is that a TMK offering would certainly be priced higher than matchburners and they’re already priced way up there.
