Sierra Heavy TMK 6MM Testing

Well….

116gr TMK’s are absolutely devastating. Even at mid impact velocities- 2,500-2,000fps, they produce wounds that I haven’t seen since 178gr AMAX’s.
Based on how you’ve described the Amax in the past, is it too much of a good thing for general hunting?

Appreciate the info Form.

I am curious how the terminal performance compares between the 95, 107 and 116 inside 300 yards.

I kind of assumed the 116 might turn out to be less violent on closer shots due to slower MV.

I don’t think I want to know what those 30 cal 220s would do…. That 95 tmk alone absolutely blew me away this year on a cow elk shoulder at 680 yds just above 1900 fps impact velocity.IMG_3440.jpeg

Maybe a dumb question. But are they too devastating? Would it be better to go with the lower weight 6mm TMKs?

Remember this is culling. Not hunting.

If you just hit ribs, it’s good- very effective.
If you hit bone, very likely you won’t like it.

2,100’ish FPS impacts. Photos and animals are unmodified.

Quartering too- shot entered center chest… How we walked up to it. A 9-10” wound.

Facing directly away. 2,105fps impact. Entered center of rear ham- 10+ inch hole. TC blew stomach out mid belly, bullet traveled all the way through the chest and through the heart. Everything inside body cavity was wrecked.

Anyone shooting a 6UM for insight on performance at or above 3k fps impact?

Yes. It’s effective.

Any thoughts on min impact velocity yet?

Nothing definitive at 1,800fps they are devastating.

They’re all messy.

No.

I’d love to hear more about the elevation at which you are shooting and the twist rate on your rifle.

-3,000ft DA. 1-7.5” twist for most of the guns.
