Notable from @Carl Ross 's results - if factory seekins and tikka barrels, they are at least grouping well with 8 twist barrels at whatever DA Carl had.

So far it looks like an 8” twist will work fine with them, if not fully optimized.

Elk shoulder season is in effect till late Feb, they'll kill elk with them before the end of Q1 production estimate. The weather in MT has been a shit show, up down, warm cold, snow rain, all the elk are still up high. 10 days ago, I had 16" of snow in the yard, it's been 40s this week with rain, and now I see nothing but green grass! Wtf!

Just one small point to add to this side tangent...

Assuming all else equal (including drag force on equal frontal surface areas), the heavier bullet penetrates further. Changing calibers muddies the waters by changing that drag force, and becomes an apples to oranges comparison that is not "all else equal."

Yes sir. The all things being equal comment is based on the lighter bullet leaving the muzzle at a faster speed (real world) within the chambering.

I’ve probably explained poorly in this thread or mistyped on my phone (common for me).

Bullets impacting and very low velocities can seem to do surprising things in what I’ve seen.

He’s nuts??? On the contrary, how about the people that pay him that for one? They are well made and nice but yeah that kind of $$$ for one is…..

They’re the only R700 action rifle I would choose to use. Some of the most impressive rifles I have shot.

It's marine tex. This was a pre-texture stock, and I wanted it less slick. I tried to popsicle stick it into having an aggressive texture as it cured, stopped a little too early and it self leveled more than I wanted. One day I want to try stippling the marine-tex. It IS primarily a range rifle and got the nod to go hunting to test these bullets out. Was seriously missing a sling today.



Shot an elk about 15 minutes after first light, give or take. It was a decent size herd of cows on private, and I was the second shooter. Range around 315 yards...probably. After the first shooter went, I waited till I found another elk giving me a reasonable presentation and shot her (I didn't re-range, hence the range uncertainty). I hit higher than I wanted (I think I suck, the bottom of her torso was obscured by grass, I think it threw me off and I aimed too high). I caught her spine and she dropped at the shot. Impact velocity should have been around 2400 fps.



Was hard on the lungs. I THINK this was the offside lung, the other (presumably onside) was missing the entire top.



With the shoulders peeled off, the entrance to the chest cavity was proper fist sized.



Chest cavity exit was 2-3 fingers in size. Didn't exit the offside shoulder. Did find a mangled hunk of jacket. It was...destructive.

They shoot very well, but there's just some sticker shock for a pimped remmy 700 in a McMillan.

I thought they were ridiculous right up until I shot beside 20+ of them for a while, and watched 13-15lb 308’s with factory ammo shoot like near benchrest rifles. And, do so without most of the issues that show on R700 compatible actions.

All the aftermarket R700 “custom” actions are just a pimped 700- they dang sure don’t shoot any better, and almost always have more functional issues than well done factory 700’s. It’s ludicrous that a “built” rifle with a BAT action costs $4,000+. I can at least say a TacOps has some differences that I can’t accomplish on my tailgate.
