Sierra Heavy TMK 6MM Testing

Alpha makes 25saw for WTO already, one step down with a 273 bushing, and set tension with a mandrel is the plan. Brass was ordered last night, will get some as well as a few 7saw, neck em down, load a bullet, and see if they both jive with a 278 or 279 neck chamber. WTO specs the 25 saw neck at 292, figure 5 thou of clearance, the loaded od is 287, so 6mm version should be 273-274 loaded.

I thought of doing the same thing but put the project on pause in hopes someone else would iron out the kinks.

The 25 saw brass is headstamped but still has 7mm neck right?

The dtac nr at .292 is good enough for 99% of hunting. With a bigger terminal window, the TMK will be an excellent killing bullet at .290!

Between the dtac nr and a TMK - does one perform consistently better than the other from 0-600 yards? I thought I read somewhere on here that the dtac nr really shines at distances (with the 6UM).

16” 6 Creed is the way

I have a 18" on order, but it's gonna be delayed, I might be able to swap to a 16.5" ... Convince me why the 16(ish) is better than the 18"? (really just want to know what folks like about the shorter barrel, even losing velocity)

OAL length and balance. However, a large portion of that is suppressed use.

For me and for the 6 Creed, the velocity increase in the 18” barrel doesn’t really even matter for killing animals. You may gain say, 100+ “killing yards” but next to nobody is/should be taking advantage of it.

My current 16” Tikka 6 Creed shooting heavy 115s is still a 750-800+ yard gun.

If unsuppressed, sure, I’d go 18-20” but just about all my suppressed rifles have 16” barrels. If you are going unsupressed your 18” is perfect.

Sounds like we need a research group to volunteer for a NZ or AUS culling trip. NZ for goats and deer , AUS for camel (elk size animal). I’ll volunteer to organize, but likely need Sierra to call and explain to my wife that my presence is critical.

Fits pretty nice. I’ll for sure be going 16” on the UM Corax build for the 6 CM. If the 112 MB’s were going 2940 from my last 18” bbl, I’d safely estimate the 115 TMK’s should be able to go 2850 from the 16”. At 5,000 DA that’s an 8 mph gun that reaches 1800 at 850 yards.

Why? I did the same and I’m not sorry at all. The 95gr while I bit picky to load for, is excellent terminally.
