Sidearm carry with pack

Don’t run a drop leg or any kind of lower holster while in the woods. It’ll get in the way when you’re going through thick stuff, the holster scraping is loud, and your pistol/revolver will be covered in everything you’re going through.

I’m a big fan of the Gunfighter Inc Kenai chest rig. It’s out of the way, won’t get hooked on anything, and it’s always on you unless you’re shedding/adding layers.

Black bears and pigs should be a lot less concerning than feral humans... I have multiple ways to carry depending on weather and amount of clothing required. You need to find what is comfortable to you so that you are always carrying.

Just got my first "chest rig" a few weeks back.
An Alaska Guide Creations with holster.
Seems to be quality stuff but I dont think I'm a
chest rig guy. Just too much stuff when a backpack
is added.
Not too bad alone, and prolly great for wade fishing.

I have tried the Diamond D Guide;s Choice, and I have three for different guns. It is a nice rig that works well. But it takes up the same real estate where I want to carry my binos. I have tried carrying the pistol on my pack hip belt. A Wilderness Tactical Products Safe Packer works well for that, but as noted the issue is that if you drop you pack you are also dropping your pistol.

I have a lot of experience carrying in a Hill People Gear Kit bag. I used one in a nondescript color without the molle when exercising in an urban environment.

My solution for hunting is that I use a HPG recon kit bag with a bino pouch and rangefinder pouch mounted on it as my bino harness. My pistol rides nicely inside it, protected from the elements and quickly accessible. It is also discreet, as the pistol is concealed. This setup works really well for me.

Fanny pack. Rides below the backpack waist belt when the pack is on and stays on when you drop the pack.

Where I live and hunt is blackbear country and honestly Im not real worried about them unless it was sow with cubs. We do have wild pigs to, and to those worry me more than the bears. I carry A pistol in a holster strong side on my pack hip belt. But when sit down I drop the pack. I know there are a few systems to carry below the Bino harness. In shorts what is your alls opinion on best way to carry pistol in backcountry?
