I was planning on putting the VX-5HD on the rifle but after reading some reviews on here I'm less inclined to do so. After looking at the SHV F1 I think I'm leaning more towards the Nightforce. Has anyone had first hand experience with the CDS ZL being any better or having less issues than the CDS?Also open to any other suggestions...

You can't go wrong with Nightforce. They have proven themselves time and time again for function and reliability. The only downside to me is the weight factor for a hunting rifle.

I have had better luck with the cds-zl than my cds. I do like that they lock on the ZL version and wont get bumped while hunting. I have not used a SHV so cant offer a opinion on it.

I have the SHV4-14 F1 MILR on a hunting rig and have not found fault with it to date. Rides in a hard case on the front of my quad with me sticking the spurs to it in the desert mountains. I purchased it for durability that has proven out in my opinion.

Appreciate the responses. I've yet to read anything negative(other than weight) about the SHV performance and function. The appealing factor for the VX-5 is the custom turret, but wondering how much value that holds when a lot of the variables(temp, elevation, etc) used to make the turret could drastically change over the course of one trip. I'm also coming from the Northeast where I am bow hunting 90% of the time. Have a lot to learn about hunting out west and long distance shooting.

I like the shv a lot, the only reason I’ve been thinking about selling it is to try out the NX8. I’ve been very happy with the tracking and reliability of holding up in the field. Custom turrets are really nice within a few hundred yards but the farther out the more I prefer mil or MOA turrets depending on the reticle.

Thank you for your input, leaning pretty heavily towards the SHV at this point.
