I think I heard more elk in the draw to my north. Going to turn off the phone and try to get some sleep.

They sense the cold coming too and the activity level should pick up the next couple days. Keep at it, good luck.

I couldn't resist. This is what all motivational speeches remind me of.

Ha! Yeah, that pic looks just like me!

OK, maybe not even a little bit. But thanks for making me reread my own post in my head with an affected lisp and happy energy.

I wasn't trying to go all Joel Osteen on Shrek. I just think that him being back in a bit, with the weekend influx pushing elk towards him and a weather change coming, now is the time. He needs to pull out the stops today.

He's from FL, right? Not many Floridians can handle cold. Lots think 40° is cold. Shriek said he was lacking cold weather gear. If he doesn't get it done soon, he might end up spraying water on his "oranges" trying to keep them from freezing.

Nothing this morning :(. I've worked my way along the south side of the canyon 3/4 of the way up hitting the tops of the draws and glassing the north facing slope. Spotted a few mule deer but no elk yet. Going to work all the way around and hit the dark draws on the north facing side with a decent wind in my favor.

Is scoping fellow hunters standard practice in Montana ? WTF ! Drive around on your 4aheeler off road ! I think the asshat just purposely drove his 4wheeler through here.

You need to be where they (wheelers) can't (or won't) go.
Oh, & put the phone (or whatever it is) away until you are in the tent:(. You are alone. Use that aloneness to become more focused. This is a (too)comfortable distraction for you. We enjoy it but you don't need to keep us entertained. You need to hunt. That time will be over all too soon & then you can spend your life on this poor (but best out there) substitute for the real thing that is currently & for a very short time in front of you. Spending time on here when you are hunting is like looking at porn when you are with your wife.

I wasn't too po'd because they were passing by where I was headed. Vance , I send this stuff when I hit a peak and need a break. I just came out of a draw and had five mulies at 35 yards feeding. All does. I'm spotting deer bedded in bushes and blow downs so I'm keeping a sharp eye. Just heard three shots kind of where I was heading and where I had the bull at 120 yards.

No offence intended, I just hate to see you miss out on the "solo" part of solo hunting. It's a soulful thing. There are also definitely times I wish I could share what I just saw with someone (like those 5 mulies). Go get 'em!

I'm not really fond of solo hunting. I'm doing it solo so I'm not holding someone back. Btw , I think I'm getting hungry. I was just hearing " cheeseburger in paradise " in my head ! Lol

For what it's worth, I agree with Vance. When I'm solo, it takes at least a couple of days to get the noise out of my head. The most important decisions of my life have been made sweating under a pack or in a tent or in a canoe.

I'm enjoying checking your thread while at work, but I feel a little parasitic if that's encouraging you to be distracted on your hunt.

We're pulling for ya.

Daily contact with my family keeps me going. if I can send a text or two from the elk woods I will. It makes my wife happy and she tries to encourage me when the hunting isn't going well. I like the solo hunt but the down time midday (early season) and evening is incredibly boring especially if hunting is slow. So I spend more time out if I have some communication with someone when I'm not hunting. My son bowhunting with me has helped a lot.

If communicating occasionally is keeping you going.......have at it. Good luck. I saw and heard some weekend chaos myself this morning. Even though they weren't close, it wasn't encouraging.

Today was hard ! I went up and down every draw and saw no elk or even fresh sign. I'm dead tired , feet sore , and legs lead. Hard to take.

Shrek, do whatever you want to do. Enjoy it however you want---it's your hunt.

Randy

No doubt about it. Just trying to be encouraging. I apologize if I came across otherwise.

Don't hesitate to tell me to pound sand, Shrek. I'm married. I can take it.
