Custom chambered 20" Proof carbon. What barrel you have on it?

That's the proper spirit! Nice job!I just want to play not worried about winning.
Went and shot my 300prc Saturday morning. First time shooting it after putting it in a Manners EH1, chopping the barrel, SRS 3 port, and fresh cerakote. The barreled action was built by PVA on a Zermatt TL3 LA with a 26" Rock Creek barrel originally. Finally got around to installing the Maven RS1.2 that I bought off @atmat a while back. She weighs roughly 11.6lbs (bathroom scale me holding it) unloaded as it has a meaty barrel.

Decided I would shoot these

I'm the first one at the range so I set out a 50yd target for bore sighting and one at 100yd which is the furthest distance at the range.
I was also putting a SWFA 3-9 on a 7mm-08 for my friends 12yo son to use this year on an elk hunt.
300prc blue, 7mm-08 yellow

Close enough let's go to 100yd.
Shots 5-7, adjusted scope for 8, labradar 9-11.

19.5" barrel with factory 245gr ammo. Not a scorcher but I wouldn't want to be hit with one.
I decided to polish off the box making the 8-11 shot group a 13 round group.

A while ago. I don’t even have a big magnum anymore. But it’s not because they can’t be shot extremely well….When did you shoot these?
Okay, just making sure I can still win that tikka takeoff stock. Headed to the range this weekend.A while ago. I don’t even have a big magnum anymore. But it’s not because they can’t be shot extremely well….
Maybe the best groups I've ever seen considering sample size and recoil energy...Okayyy…. Two 30 round groups with a 12lb. 300 NMI. One is .7 the other is .9

Yeah with that sample size for sure. But I know there’s more 300 NMI’s out there that could the same thing. I’ve seen several shoot 5 shot groups in the .2’s. They’d likely stack a 30 rounds group damn tight. But no one really does that with the bigger guns very often.Maybe the best groups I've ever seen considering sample size and recoil energy...
Completely agree. I actually started changing my tune a little bit when I had that 300 NMI that shot lights out. I spent tons of time truing it and shooting it at 1300 yards. I killed everything under 300 yards that season and just thought “well that sucked to carry around just to make a couple pop shots” hahaha. So now I have a more suitable mid range setup, that’s still capable to drop a pretty long bomb ballistically every so often, instead of the other way around. In fairness most guys in the 223 threads have factory barrels and are being limited by that rather than recoil.
I still dont think at a range with time magnums make a huge difference. I honestly think its just fundamentals and barrel quality.
My 280AI Kimber used to shoot 180 ELDs @2860FPS from a sub 7pound setup into some very nice small groups (better than 99% of my 223s shoot) but it was definitely a prone gun. Once I started shooting of trekking poles, or raised positions, etc I would just miss shots id easily make with the 223. I, like you dont have any bigger guns left because I feel a I gain more from shooting positions giving me more mid range shot opportunities that my old tactic of shooting from where I could make positions. Both work absolutely fine
