The MT bottom metal I have is a poor fit in the Rokstok I just got… needs shimmed, 1/16” gap at the forward end and decidedly proud of the inlet. I couldn’t find the right washer for shimming at the hardware store so I was going to order a set from HDRW, then stated looking at their bottom metal. I emailed Thomas and he was quick to respond with his cell #. He offered to send me a used one at no charge to see if it’d work. I ended up just ordering a new one and he said that if it didn’t fit right then just send it back for a full refund.
Great communication and CS. I’m really hoping it works because I’d like to send more business his way.
Will report back after I get the bottom metal and check for fit.

For me:

1) The factory plastic feels and looks cheap. Factory plastic is functional, but on a “semi custom” build with a $800+ stock, the plastic didn’t belong.

2) Looks. Having the bottom metal match the barreled action (stainless on one rifle, coyote tan on another) looks much better.

3) Torque. Torquing the plastic to 65in/lbs can deform the plastic, or have the action screw heads start to pull through.

For me, strictly to torque things down tighter, I don’t care about the looks, I’ve had all the different aftermarket bottom metals at one point or another and couldn’t tell a single difference between them while shooting.

One of my guns has the lumley arms bottom metal that is enlarged to fit a gloved finger through, I don’t think I’ve ever shot with a glove on.

I also believe the factory plastic is lighter than all the others so if weight is your concern and your plastic one is working fine, there is zero reason to spend 150.00 on a metal version.
