Joint replacements get loose, infected and break. Generally can be replaced several times. Would hope you have seen an expert shoulder guy to try to get things fixed rather than live in pain and disabled. There are good competent docs out there.

Your best information is finding the people who had surgery from the doctor you are thinking of going to and asking them how the surgery went how the doctor's bedside manner was and so forth. Also go talk to a physical therapist you are going to use and ask them how the doctors surgeries go. They know more about the doctor than the doctor usually.

I helped pack out my husbands elk that winter '21. Putting the pack on I felt all the scar tissue being pulled and by that evening my shoulder was locking up and had to do a weird arm dance to get it unlocked. The doctor knew the exact movement to release the shoulder. He thought the ball was flat on one side. He said it looked almost square.

I had heard and was told a ton to horror stories about the total reversed shoulder replacement the main reason I put it off for so long until I finally had to get it done. I had almost no pain and no problems with the shoulder surgery. My last knee replacement was a real pain. Couldn't get the swelling out of the knee/leg. A lot of pain.

Just remember the longer you go the rest of your body will compensate for the hurt shoulder and you're doing more damage to the healthy parts.

You need to do your own research on the doctor and find the Physical Therapist who you will go to and talk with them. All Physical Therapist are not the same. Neither are doctors.

For any of you that have had this done, what limitations have you experienced? In strength ? In range of motion?

I met with the doctor today. There are some movements that I won't recover - most I will. He indicated that I have no shoulder socket and extensive bone spur growth.

He says I will be able to shoot, lift bales, saddle horses and pack but there will be a number of months of life in a sling followed by pt and strength development. The new life will start in January.

Good for you. I'm not suppose to lift (straight out) more than 25 pounds. I couldn't do that before the surgery.
I watch what I lift and how I lift and so far it really hasn't hindered me.
I have packed out some rocks that was about what I can pack meat weight wise didn't bother me.
So good luck follow instructions. Don't think if a little is good more will be great it doesn't work that way. You'll pay for it. Slow and steady wins the race.
You will be going out of your mind in the recovery time have a good recliner to sleep in because you'll do all of your sleeping in the recliner for about 8 weeks. It gets old but that is the way it is.
When you can bundle up and start doing easy walks outside it really helps.
