SHOULDER STRAP HOLSTER

Have never tried one, but I'd be worried that much weight on a shoulder strap. Have you looked at the gunfighters inc micro agression leg drop panel.

I just bought one for a G20 and really like it. Remains on when pack is dropped and doesn't interfere with pack or bino harness. Only concern would be interference with a strong side slung rifle or gun bearer (not sure how much I would carry a handgun if I already had a rifle though).

Does it require a belt? I hate belts under my backpack

I have this setup for a G19 and a daypack. I like the fact that I can remove the "shell" from a mount in my truck or on my Ranger and click it into the shoulder strap mount fast and easy. It does not cause much off balance feel so far.

That said: I would not use this for a long trek hunting or backpacking setup due to comfort and the fact that you will be much more sensitive to off balance issues with a heavy load on you. I am planning on doing one of the HPG chest harnesses for this use, looks like you could carry gun, binos and a decent amount of other stuff with one of these.

ETA: also cannot stand carrying a belt holster with a pack, even a drop leg. And I feel like center of chest is much more manageable with a pack on.

That thing looks like it would be exactly in the wrong spot for bowhunting. I'd hate to get my string looped behind it and try to send an arrow....lots of ways that could go sideways.

It does require a belt and I don't see any practical ways around it. Maybe you could modify your pants (would have to modify all pairs) or run some cord/webbing (probably not convenient) but you need to have an attachment point for the drop.

I know a lot of people with belt/pack belt issues use the HPG under pack belt. I use a nylon webbing belt from Bison designs and am happy.

Yeah...with a recurve at full draw this could easily become a problem adversely impacting proper form. I wish somebody made a decent universal holster attachment for backpacks. Tried the drop down holster, it messed by guns up moving thru dense brush and they got all wet in the morning dew. Might just hafta throw a big custom made gun belt over over the waist belt of my packs. Just afraid i'll forget it during a rest stop and leave it behind accidentally. No bueno.
