Hi folks,

I’m getting shoulder mounts for my blue sheep and tahr. I typically do euros but thought I would get these mounted. I’m oddly undecided. I’ve reached out to a couple people but thought I would open it up. What are the pros/cons of straight forward vs a slight head turn? I don’t have places picked out yet so going with a head turn may eliminate certain places.

Thanks in advance -

It's a personal choice. I like Euros too but not for the North American Sheep, only exotics. If I decide to shoulder mount something, I usually get it with a slight turn. I think it looks way better. I'd even think a wall mounted pedestal type turn looks the best.

Just here to say blue sheep may be at the very top of my list…

If I remember correctly, you got yours in Nepal? I believe northern Pakistan may have some that are huntable? I also know a guy who got his in China, but those days have passed.

Go with a slight turn and wall pedestals are always eye appealling.
Your eyes read left to right naturally so have the mount and turn facing whatever and where ever the door is into the room . Typically left turn is always best

Don't be afraid to turn the head different directions and different amounts to see what looks the best. Most heads look best from a particular view and generally have a "best" side. Your taxidermist should be able to advise on this.

Definitely personal preference. I’m not a fan of straight on taxidermy, the angled versions look better to me with all species.

Turns are good for the most part for N America. A lot of animals from Africa are straight. Goats I like straight like your Tahr. Red stags tend to be straight . So I would pick what you think looks best for your home. You are correct that the turn of the animal will influence your placement and the ability to move it later. Probably can’t go wrong with your blue sheep and tahr.

Yep. Nepal. It was a hunt of a lifetime for sure.
