Shoulder injury?

That is exactly what I have!

The MRI states this:
There is a SLAP tear involving the superior labrum. The remaining portion of the labrum are normal

Supraspinatus: There is a high grade tear of the insertion of the supraspinatus onto the greater tuberosity. This is at the 12:00 position. This measures 8mm in in AP diameter is about 80-90% of the thickness of the tendon. The vast majority of this is an intrasubstance tear. However there is a small articular surface component that communicates with the remaining portions of the tear so that gadolinium extends into the tear site.

There is fluid in the subacromial subdeltoid bursa suggesting bursitis.

Now you have me freaking out shortdraw! If I have to have surgery, hopefully I can get it done by the end of this month because I need to be healthy by July so that I can start shooting again and be ready for August muleys

Slim Jim,
Well don't freak too much. You should talk to your orthopedist re appropriate surgery. Ask about the tenodesis. (BTW, I am in NO WAY qualified to make an authoritative comment about your situation - I'm just a satisfied customer!!) You appear to be in the Vegas area so look around for a surgeon that works with athletes. Don't know your age but I am 51. Initially I had some surgeons who seemed only interested in getting me functional in only the most basic, functional way. "After all, at 51 you're not going to become a pro pitcher." That's a BS attitude. I got rid of those guys right away.

I have been told that 3-4 months out of surgery I will be better than I was before the surgery so you have time assuming, again, that the correct approach is a tenodesis. So far I seem right on track. Get multiple opinions. Make sure you have a copy of your MRI so you can tote it around to other docs. If things look like it is getting too close to your season you might be able to put things off with a cortisone shot. For better or worse, that's what I did.

If you like, send me a PM and I can discuss further.

Funny that I see this thread today....I had been shooting a lot more than normal. At indoor league last week my shoulder started hurting some but I just kept shooting. It still hurts today. My pain is in the joint. Played Bball last night and was able to go. My shoulder didn't really bother me until we were done and then it hurt like hell.

Hopefully it is nothing serious like some of the stories above. Going to rest it for a couple weeks and hopefully it goes away.

Matt

The shoulder stretches posted on YouTube have really helped lesson the pain, I would recomend you try them. I still have popping in the tendons or whatever it is, but they help. I am really curious to whatthe ortho will telll me. With all the technology in micro surgery I am hoping if that is needed it will be a quick recovery as stated on here. I am only shooting once a week now as well, which stinks, this is my way to relax.

Hey Slim Jim,
I just thought I would amend my earlier comment about being better than I was before in 3-4 months. I think that is partly due to my surgery being pretty straight forward. Many situations are far more messy than mine. I am also aggressively optimistic! I hate not being able to shoot so I tend to think this way. Anyway, let us know how things go. This is hardly the first shoulder thread on an archery forum!

I went to the doctor. He located the spot and gave me some arm movement tests. Dr. said I have bicep tendentious. Kinda relieved that it isn't something more serious (like needs major surgery). Supposed to put some speacial magic cream on it for a few weeks. If that doesn't work then getting a shot into the tendon area.

Funny you post this. I am turning 40-in 2-months, but about 8-years ago I was playing ball with my oldest and was showing off and damaged the muscles in my right shoulder. It has been progressively getting worse. I turned all my bows down to 62-lbs this weekend. I think between the ball and the high poundage time is paying me back.
For what it is worth I killed my first elk with 60-lbs, so I think all the extra is just stress on the joints. I am going to get it looked at on my next check up. I have cut back the number of arrows I shoot and ibuprofen is my friend.

Hurt my shoulder the same way. Pitching to me boys team. Been debating about going to the doc's. Hurts to sleep

I have been dealing with a small tear in my RC (drawing arm) for 5 yrs..

I get a shot every 6 months that helps get me through hunting season.

It really sucks!

I seen the Dr today and he didn't stress surgery. He said to keep doing therapy and just be smart when lifting heavy things out in front of body and it might heal. It's about 50/50 on healing because scar tissue can build and kind of act like a weld. We will see, at least I can be a little optimistic about it now. He also said that out of the whole tendon area that makes up the rotater cuff, my injury only makes up about 15% of it and that tendon is 80-90% torn so its not as bad as I thought. Worst case scenario is if that small area completely tears, he goes in orthoscopicly and reattaches it the bone with only a three month recovery.

On another note, I put in for my NV tags today and with all the points I have in all the species, I'm feeling really good about the upcoming season. Good day today!😀
