Shoulder bump confusion

If a die is screwed in just shy of enough to bump shoulders, it can actually push the shoulders forward a little bit by squeezing the body of the case.

If you are not having any resistance to bolt close when chambering rounds, it's sized enough.

The neck sizing guys amongst us baffle me. I tried just neck sizing with Lee collet neck sizing dies after 1 firing on a couple different cartridges. It resulted in resistance to bolt close after just one firing/neck sizing. Eff that noise especially in a field gun that might get a little moisture or dust/debris in the chamber.
User error. Couldn't possibly be any easier than rifle specific brass and a LCD.

Neck size only for a cpl firings is common on belted cases like my STW where they grow .020".
On my 7PRC I have a whopping .003" between virgin brass and heavy bolt lift so fl sizing every firing is a must.

Yeah, makes perfect sense for that application. I did it on one 6.5 creed and one 6mm creed (I.E. cartridges that usually dont have sloppy fit in chamber). There was resistance to bolt close on both after 1 firing and LCD neck size only.

So, what might I have done wrong after 1x firing of berger 6.5 creed factory ammo with a LCD to get resistance on bolt close? How could the die move shoulders further forward?

I have a 6 creedmoor forster FL sizing die that's neck was honed too large for some thinner neck brass so on that brass I use a LCD after FL sizing to get final sizing. Never an issue using it after a small shoulder bump.

Not sure what your specific problem is, but there's no reason that should happen, given the fact I use LCD/rifle specific brass on my 7mag, 6.5's, and 7-08 with never problem and multiple loadings before bringing out the body die to bump shoulders. This with Hornady, Norma, and Nosler brass.

Its 2026, not 1986. Theres no reason to reload/size brass blindly.

Skip neck sizing, get FL dies, and get a comparator kit and understand whats actually going on (unless you are against consistency and reliability). Once you document your numbers you can make perfect ammo without the gun being present. Im loading for my dad's gun thats 800 miles away and every piece is perfect.
