Funny you should mention that, the front of the first band is exactly where I am seated and coincides with exactly 0.050 jump per my comparator.

Worked up a load for my light weight 7-08 this fall of 43.0 & 43.5 gr of RL15. Shoots ragged one hole five shot groups with both Nosler Ballistic tips and Barnes TTSX in 120's. I set them at 2.8 inches. Shot well out of two different rifles with no cooling between shots. Winchester brass with cci primers. Neither rifle is a kimber though.

I have two montana's, a 7wsm and a 300wsm. Both guns shot alright from the factory but showed noticeable improvement after bedding.

I know this post is a little old, but I am going through the exact same scenario as the original poster with my older (bought used) 7-08 Montana. I have checked the action screw contact and torque, and magazine contact. I am running a 1” Leupold 4.5-14 vx3 and think i am down to bedding. How Far forward on the action would you guys bed? Anyone try a pressure point out front? Thanks for the help

There's about 10,000 ways to skin the cat

But bedding the lug everywhere but the bottom and bedding just the action makes the most sense to me.

If that doesn't have the desired affects you can go to a forend pressure move or full length bedding the barrel.
