Should I get a 7mm backcountry?

Thinking about building a short barreled do it all rifle recently. I wonder what do you guys think about the 7mm bc? I originally wanted a 20 inches 300wsm, but the velocity trade off kind of turn me off, I know it is more than adequate, especially I don`t hunt long range, but still want the extra velocity to be there in case I need it. I looked into 7mm bc, not a big fan because I can`t reload for it, and factory load can`t seem to get the desired accuracy.

I contacted federal, they told me the reloading component is in the final stage to be released, which is a good news. what do you think? Anther concern is, even if they can be reloaded, with the higher case pressure, is it tunable like the brass case cartridge?

When you say "do it all", what does that mean to you?
What weight rifle are you looking for?
Do you care about action length?
What extra juice are you looking for? Have you run any numbers?
I assume you want to shoot the 180s.

I think the 7mmBC is an easy pass.
Setting aside the lack of support,
The 7mmBC is going to hammer you in a lightweight rifle and that will suck on range day.
The 7mmBC is going to have a significant amount of muzzle blast in a 20" bbl and that will suck on range day.
The 7mmBC is going to be loud as hell with a 20"bbl. Even suppressed...
Minutiae aside, I am not sure what the 7mmBC does that a 7wsm, 7suam, 7mm PRC, 7mag, 280AI, etc. doesn't do without the added drama.

At the end of the day, you can do most everything in NA with a 1:8.5 twist 7mm-08, 284win, 280r with a lot less drama. When appropriately built...

Just my thought on it. Sometimes less is more...

This should be in the Firearms section.

To answer your question, at all practical hunting ranges a 7mm08 is going to give you everything you need plus more, with significant reduction on recoil, infinite more factory ammo options, tons more aftermarket components, and any rifle brand you decide you want.

If you aren't set on a 7mm, there are even more options for you.

Edit: furthermore, what do you mean by "juice"? the speed of your bullet is the only number you should be worried about. Burning more powder and increasing recoil doesnt translate into deader animals. It just means you wont shoot it as well as something lighter recoiling.

Are you sure the factory rounds aren’t accurate enough?

You should definitely get one, though, if you reload. Be the first to order the dies when they come out, then figure out how to form some brass cases to fit. With the brass cases, you should be able to load 160 class bullets around 27-2800 FPS and call it the 7 Brass Backcountry or 7 BBC. Then, when you’re in a scenario that requires max wallop, load up or use factory Peak alloy cases to send 180s at 3000 FPS. It will be a versatile setup and unique.

Since you reload and are eyeing a 7mm, seems like the 7PRC, 7SAUM, 280AI, or 284WIN in a 20” is the best route.

I have a 20” 7PRC and if I had it to do again, I’d go 7SAUM for the reduced recoil and same basic effective range given my own shooting limitations.

If I had a full reloading setup and plenty of time to develop loads, I might opt for a hot 7mm08 or the 284WIN.

I’m with most others that 7BC isnt the right answer for now. Remember Etronx from Remington?

If you feel the need for speed from a 7, get a Nosler 28 chambered for 180's or 195's. Easy button is a 7prc and it'll kill anything at a distance you can consistently shoot.

No , horrible recoil and noise, unless you have a canned version but even with a suppressor the still need muffs and plugs
#2 they are having trouble with the pressure and bolts needing to be hammered open

Its a hard no for me. I have a 7wsm in the safe that beats the piss out of you to shoot, is expensive, barely accurate, and difficult to follow impacts. A lightweight 7 backcountry is going to the exact same.

I am biased though. I prefer heavier rifles that shoot small groups vs lightweight rifles that can only be shot once without heat issues.
