Shotgun Suppressors?

I don’t think there is a consensus right now. We had a lively discussion about the Banish 12 and other options a few months back, but I haven’t heard about any model interesting enough to me, yet.

I’d really like a good shotgun suppressor.

I shot trap with a guy who was using a banish 12 and it was interesting, it was quieter but not by much, also i could visibly tell his gun was unbalanced and not swinging that smooth with that massive thing on the end of his 28” barrel.

It was interesting but I’m not even remotely sold on it. It’s like the first time I shot a pistol with a silencer, it was neat but I didn’t go home and start shopping for pistol silencers.

I went to a capitol armory demo day a few years back and shot a salvo12. That was the coolest suppressor I shot all day. I’m sure it was loaded with light / subsonic loads, but it was pleasantly hearing safe in a short, pump action. Definitely gave me the itch for one, but I don’t shoot shotgun enough to justify it.

Anyone try waterfowl with a can?

I used to love shooting geese in fields. But dang after going suppressed with basically all my guns CCW aside it's hard to get motivated to hunt loud.

Sucks trying to call geese, hear them and what not with ear pro. But I never did try the better ear buds.

But I'd be interested in trying it with a can.

That’s what I got mine for, it’s not quiet enough for my buddies to get one. It helps but it’s definitely not as cool as rifle suppressors.

I went the phoenix armory route and wouldn't do it again. For what it's worth, I contacted YHM and asked them if they could provide sound testing data on the Victra 20. They were not able to send me any data to support their hearing safe decibel reduction claim. Kind of disappointing.

That is super lame. Not sure how they can make those claims without any testing. Guess it’s been done before though 🤷

This thread inspired me to reach out to YHM again and this time I got more of a response. I'll copy and paste below for anyone else that is interested.
Yes, there was testing done to support those claims. The setup we used was a 28” 20ga pump action shotgun shooting #7.5 bird shot. The numbers posted are from the shooters right ear position. In the world of shotgun suppressors (like all suppressors but especially shotguns) set up truly matters. One will not get the same reduction on an 18” gun shooting turkey loads for example. So, in short, the numbers posted are true and accurate but if someone changes barrel length, shot type or action type the dB rating will change as well.
