Anyone know of a good resource for teaching someone shot placement. It would be cool if there was interactive tool or one that showed the path through the vitals. Every season I go over shot placement with my wife but I feel she would learn more if she could see the vitals and why you aim at certain points, especially on quartering or downward shots.

The perfect shot by Craig Boddington might be something to look at. Think there are a few apps out there too

I wished more hunters asked this question. Some hunters think an elk heart is wherever they hit him, usually somewhere between the middle of the guts to the middle of the neck and from the high point of his back hair to the belly line. The old unscientific rule was to aim for the offside shoulder.

ETA: That should read The old unscientific rule on a quartering shot was to aim for the offside shoulder or last rib.
