Sometimes I’m a slow learner, but fairly certain I shot out my 1st barrel.
Tikka Master Sporter, pic rail c loctite 380. Unknown rings.
Barrel is a 22CM rechambered from Tikka .22-250. This barrel was never much of a shooter for me, 1.5-1.6” ten round groups w 77TMKs (didn’t like other options).
Complicating the diagnostics… New scope, one of the discounted MInox THLRs, was put on. At that time I had maybe 80 rounds of 77TMK still loaded, initially shot normal groups, by the end of the 80 rounds I was seeing fliers and questioning the scope.
Loaded some of the new 88s. Seemed gtg for 20-30 rounds, then a couple odd fliers. Pulled scope put on known rifle, scope was good to go in that rifle, including passing my version of the drop test. So not the scope.
Pulled rifle apart and reassembled. Reshot w known scope. Now getting wild fliers, but speeds are constant or up slightly.
Had a “known” .308 barrel and ammo on the shelf. Norma box ammo, was seeing 1.2” or less groups before pulling barrel. This is a T3X barrel action is 595.
Swapped barrel, head space checked w dollar store “scotch tape” snug w 4 layers.
And… back to being a shooter.
