Have a christensen mesa 300 prc that as of yesterday as 1500 ish shots on it.

I am positive that it is shot out, lots of throat erosion loads that were once sub moa have opened up significantly.

I know its not the best action but its the action I have, I am going to have a new barrel put on it, in 300 prc of course because well I have everything for it., good brass, good dies, 15 lbs of two different type of powders.

The question is, do I put a carbon barrel on it and who do I go with, or do I put a stainless fluted barrel on it.

I am going to go with a 22 inch barrel I know that.

I want your carbon if you were going to be carrying the gun around a lot because it was definitely knock off some weight. But if it’s just gonna be a target gun and not carried around a bunch, there’s no real sense in putting a carbon barrel on it. For carbon barrels personally, I would stick with proof or carbon six. I’ve had a really good luck with both of them. For a steel barrel, I would say kreiger, Brux, McGowan just to name a few good ones

If the barrel you have on it shot good, I would recommend just having it set back and rechambered. That way you can get another 1500 shots out of it before spending the $$ for a new barrel.

If you do choose to go the new barrel route, I would just go with a quality SS barrel. There is really no benefit of a carbon wrapped barrel.

I can't imagine there is enough meat on that thin barrel to set it back, and i'd have to bet after 1500 rounds it is torched well past just the first few inches

A fluted steel sporter will be substantially lighter than a carbon barrel.

This might be an option, and there are plenty of coupon codes to be used to get it down under $700
*assuming that the R700 thread is the same for their actions*
