Went out shooting over the weekend with my 16 inch howa in 22 arc and my 20 in Atlas lite in 22 creed. I was shooting the 77 tmk in the ARC over 31.5 gr of Lever and seeing 3110 fps with a high of 3150. Im still within Hornady load data with that charge, the accuracy is awesome, and the brass was not showing any pressure signs.

Switched to the Creed with the 80 gr berger over 39.5 gr of Staball 6.5 and was only seeing 3075. Obviously with 8 more gr of powder and 4 more inches of barrel this was a bit unexpected. Out of my 24 inch creed this load is around 3475 i knew id be losing speed going shorter but didnt plan on 100 fps per inch. Even the factory Hornady with the ELD M is over 100 fps higher in the 20 in creed.

So my question is any advice on powders to get better velocity from the short creed? I looked around in the search area with not much success. I know you can run faster powders just not sure HOW fast you can go.

I have a 22 creed with an 18 inch carbon barrel from horizon. Shooting 80 gr Bergers and 80 gr eld-m over 39.5 grs of Reloader 16 and getting 3150 fps. It's available on most sites right now.

From everything I've heard and read if you are gonna chase velocity in a short barrel 22 creed H4350 is a good powder to go with. It is hot and you might pressure spike early but there are a decent bit of people out there running it in 16.5in creeds and having good luck. I am personally building a custom 16.5in and plan on running the 88 eldms with it and my powder plan in H4350.

ARC is likely to be more efficient in a shorter barrel.

Less powder = less expensive to load + longer barrel life.
