I feel like I missed the boat on the Fieldcrafts but did grab one of the Tikka SS 6.5 for $499, so my plan is carbon barrel/stock. I’d like to think I could get around a 7 lb. scoped with a lightweight Leupold.

what stock would you likely choose? I was thinking the light weight Maven could be a great scope for such a rifle.

I have been looking at the OMR Tikka upgrade package with AG stock but can’t decide on caliber and barrel length. I’m leaning toward 6 or 6.5 creed in 16” for suppressed hunting out to the 3-400 yard range.

That looks like an impressive upgrade package. I'm not even sure if I can get that in Canada easily.

Being in Canada I would be talking to Clay at Prophet River in Lloydminster.
Ive purchased CA, WBY & Coopers from him. Awesome to deal with. They currently dont have any Barrets or CA in stock. But they have a real nice Cooper in 260 rem.
My go to lightweight rifle is a Cooper 92 Backcountry in 7mm rem mag. I have had lots of issues with it, and wouldnt recommend one for the price tag. But it appears Corlanes has sorted out all my issues and the rifle is shooting good.
Regardless Clay and the crew at Prophet River have been amazing in getting my warranty issues dealt with.

In early 2019 I bought a new kimber subalpine in 280 AI for a sheep hunt. we did have to do some tinkering...frustrating for a while... but its now consistently under an inch group....and majority of time under a half inch. This is my 5th Kimber and all of them, with handloads, will shoot an inch group or less.

i went to like weight years ago my first was a rem model 7 260 when they first cam out shot over 40 deer with it shoots one hole groups, i retired it when kimber came out with the montana 300wsm, next was a kimber mt assent in 280ai, i just picked up a christianson ridge line in 300wm plus other light weight customs light weight is the only way to go. when you get old the lighter you like it cloths boots gear period.

Kimber Mountain Ascent in 280AI with Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-15x42 & Talley Rings has me at 6.5 lbs. Its a huge improvement over my 9.5 lbs rig from the last 3 years.

Thinking I might need a light rifle. Been eyeballing one of those mtn ascents in .280ai since they came out.

Another vote for a Kimber. I think their issues are generally sorted and I've personally not seen or shot a dud. Doesn't mean they aren't out there, but I havent seen them.

I've played with 2 Sako finnlight's, they are two of the worst recoiling rifles I've ever shot. One of them was a .243. Something about that stock shape just didnt work for neither my brother or myself. There definitely seems to be 2 camps with that stock. It either works fine for people or it sucks, not much in between.

I dont know if you'll find a Fieldcraft in Canada. I've been looking for a couple weeks and haven't found one. It doesnt sound like there is any left in the supply chain, and Barrett apparently isnt making more. A couple shops thought they might have some awaiting customs clearance, but no one ever seems to know. If you find one, jump on it
... or let me know :)

I've also personally moved away from 24" barrels on my light guns, and even 22" is starting to feel unnecessarily long. I find the shorter barrels enhance the lightweight nature of the guns and a long barrel quickly takes it away.

There was a fieldcraft on CGN a few weeks ago. May have sold. If you are in Canada and aren’t on that forum you need to be.

Agreed on the barrels, the 21 inch on my element feels like plenty.

I love the Remington Model Seven SS rifles that I have. They've proven to be very well balanced, accurate little rifles.

I have been looking at Kimberley mountain ascent. Does anyone have experience shooting one that can provide feedback on how much kick there is? Typically a problem with lighter rifles.

Not mountain ascent, but a subalpine in 280ai and a Montana in 308... so same action stock and very similar weight.

Both will let you know when you pull the trigger. I personally think the 308 is worse than the 280 if that’s possible.

I have both of mine braked since they’re threaded. Calms them both way down and, IME makes them more consistent shooters.

there is the tikka superlite, since you are already a tikka fan. for ultralight it's hard to count out current kimbers, if it was 8-10yrs ago I could see the concern, but they seem solid these days.... even the hunters are very consistent. i had one for awhile and it hung with my tikka in accuracy.

i'm getting a savage ultralite, they just seem like you can't go wrong, and certainly can't build a similar rig for the price... they are a little ugly, but dead critters will not mind they were killed with an ugly rifle

I am considering the Ultralite, just because I can get it in 6.5 PRC. If Tikka made their Superlite in the PRC I would have pulled the trigger already. I don't really need a carbon barrel, as it would be a deer rifle and other than some load dev and practice it will only shoot a few shots a season.

How are Accu Triggers? say compared to other decent factory triggers.
