So a buddy and I were talking, neither of us had a shop when we met, we both do now... It was kinda a forgone thing for both of us that we would have a shop for our stuff. Just had to have the place/money.

So what do you use, assuming you can't fit all you hobbies in a spare bedroom.

Shop?

Regular garage?

Shed?

Basically most of the above. I store most of my stuff in what they call a "bonus room" here plus my whole reloading operation. I store a lot of my fishing stuff there and in my garage and store larger stuff in my barn (36 X 36).

I marked shed. I have a bunch of stuff in a half sized cargo container until the house gets built this spring. The wife insisted (seriously insisted) I have my own hunting/reloading room (yes, she is a unicorn). I can’t wait to put a futon in there for a “spare bedroom” for guests and have 20+ mounts on the wall over their heads, while they sleep next to my reloading bench/supplies. It should encourage folks to not stay long.

I consider a “shop” a place to work on cars.

Many years I turned the 1 car attached garage into a family room.
I then built a 24x27 barn when I had horses.
Horses got sold and bought atvs and snowmobiles.

Turned part of the barn (turned shed) into a small shop with a wood stove.

All my gear and tools and reloading equipment are in there.

I marked spare room/closet but have bins and a storage cabinet in the garage too. We are about to be in between moves but once I retire from the military and we decide where to live the rest of our lives, a 40x60ish post frame shop will be promptly built.

My shop is large 80x32 quonset hut but leaks. (Working on that) so alot of my stuff like packs, guns stays in a small room in our house.
Stands in shop as well as dog boxes, and most of the dog stuff and a force fetch table. Two freezers and a fridge to age meat in or beer in the summer. And my camper, boat, tractor, 4wheeler and project jeep

My current shop is the garage. My wife hates it. One car garage for fly tying, reloading, boat building and odds and ends. It’s a pain in the ass. I have been looking for a local industrial building in the area but I think that ship has sailed. When we can finally afford to build it’s a minimum 40x20 shop with an upstairs guest room/ tying space. It’s a suffer now for the win later situation.

Mostly the basement storage arear. Tree stands and fishing gear in the garage.
I would love a shop, so I could actually park my vehicles in the garage.

Separate 1 car for tools, mare motel for storage. The rest is inside due to our over 100 degree days. Reloading equipment and supplies don't like the heat. 2 car attached for the vehicles and a rear 11 x 20 block and metal storage room out back for general crap. After writing this I think I need to have a yard sale.

The garage is all mine- 1200 sq/ft and it is full. Also have a shed with firewood, lawnmower, and landscaping stuff. A 40x80 stick-built shop is in the plans if we stay at the current place which we probably will.

I used to think this. Not sure I still don't...

But man, sometimes that 30 foot walk to the house when a project is being particularly frustrating is really nice. Shutting the door, locking up, and just walking away!
