Hi- Getting more in to shooting for future "out west" hunts. Was researching shooting pads for prone shots (practicing). My question is; does anyone take out a lighter weight (1-2lb) shooting mat like the Cole-TAC spartan or Cross Tac recon in the field for hunting? Could dual purpose as a butt pad. Just wondering if this is a thing or a waste of humping extra weight. Thanks

I have one specifically for cactus. Every time I can shoot prone in the field I find the one dang cactus in the entire pasture.

I mainly hunt the foothills and Rockies, and there's not much need for a pad in that terrain. Just extra crap to carry. I spend some time where there's risk of cactus, but I just take a quick look where I'm about to flop if going prone in that country. Crawling during a stalk is the bigger issue for me where there are cacti, and it's not practical to drag a pad along under the knees while stalking. :D
