I just want to share some information about a pair of glasses I recently purchased. They’ve been around for a while but I just found out these existed a little while ago.
A little background first. I’m severely red/green color blind (strong protan) and struggle with seeing red, green, brown and even yellow. Orange sporting clays targets can be nearly impossible to see against some backgrounds and it’s difficult for me to pick out game birds like chukars when they’re flying against a backdrop other than the sky. I’ve used Decot Hy-Wyd shooting glasses with rose lenses for several years and these have helped.
All that said, I recently bought a pair of Pilla shooting glasses with their RGHL (red green high light) lenses and the difference in my ability to see targets has been nothing short of amazing! They’ve even helped me track chukar and have increased my ability to hit both live birds and clay targets. I can even differentiate between different colored bushes and trees in the field which I’ve never been able to do. The glasses are really an incredible addition to my shooting gear and I’d recommend them to others who are colorblind and struggle to see clay targets and birds. I can’t promise they’ll work for you since everyone’s eyes a different but it’s worth a try.
If you’re interested there are a couple of good YouTube videos on these that you can find with a quick search.
