Shooting Bags NRL hunter

I’m no sniper but I have used this method with good success. I always chuckle to myself when I see guys packing around several different bags at hunter matches. I pack a used sand filled schmedium that is a little over half filled. It is heavy but works for everything I need at matches, out at the range or shooting varmints etc. I have thought about getting the next size up once this one is no longer usable but that may be a while yet. If you keep more sand in the bag and lay the rifle on the long axis you'll get much more stability..

You'll see guys with a bigger bag for those stages where a schmedium size doesn't get enough mag or bipod clearance.
I've run into that problem on quite a few props, especially when shooting at steep angles.

That was more for demonstration purposes of one bag for everything and I did a bad job at that. I very rarely shoot off a tripod, but can honestly say I don’t think I pay much attention to which way I toss my bag on top of the tripod or prop. It’s probably a mix of short vs long axis contacting the rifle. Like I said, I’m no sniper. 😂

Don't be foolin' the class on the one bag for everything KISS method... you plop that MDT triple pull out and use the 2 section gamer tripod for rear support like the rest of us

I run a schmedium heavy fill / triple pull bipod/ single pull inverted leg RRS tripod w/ anvil 30 and ranging binos clipped in. Tripod and bag on OBI links. It’s a game and if you ain’t gamein you ain’t tryin.

I don't see anyone else doing it, but I made my own bag and stitched a short length of strap to one edge, then put a QD sling swivel on it. I have a QD cup on the side of my tripod apex, front and back of my rifle. It means my bag is always handy to swing up and put on my tripod head/plate to glass or attached to the front of my rifle. 1000001515.jpg

I ran a QR swivel like that for my tripod in a hunter match and it was kind of a PITA as far as getting it released off my pack quickly. I find the std ITW nexus side release buckles work better.

On my bags(game changers) they are pretty slick. Male end on the bag and female end on the left shoulder strap of my pack below the load lifter, and a second female end left side on the belt all the way to the rear. Bonus- A gitlite bag is super nice on the pack belt for hunting use.
