I am shooting my first NRL hunter in may. I plan to run a tripod with a arca tactable to glass and shoot off of. I am already planing on getting the shmeddium game changer. But I have seen dudes run 1" rectangle or sqaure bags that fit perfectly onto your table. I am been searching all over and cant find one. Any ideas? Preferably one that has the ability to mount to the tactable.

@NSI uses ours. I designed it with Marc, match director of the Ghost Hunter match in AZ. Also look at the Bone Bag by Scott Satterlee with Git Lite. It’s the plate and bag for less than some plates alone.

Ultralight plate and bag from www.lswild.com and we have bags too.

Lemme know if you have questions. I can walk you through. I have shared lots is posts about options and shooting NRL hunter on Rokslide. Lots of good stuff by others too. Search for NRL and put in username like @Lawnboi for good info.

I went 4 straight in this position at 1000 off it just last Saturday. It’s a “killer app” for NRL hunter for stability.

The system is fast to deploy, and glass then shoot off of. Get an inverted leg tripod from Leofoto or RRS. It’s the fastest to adjust and most stable.

Thank you so much. This is exactly what I was looking for. Great price too, I just bought a arca plate. Wish I would’ve seen yours first. Do you guys sell the plate bag by itself?

No, it’s fit to the plate with elastic tabs.

But, hit me up by PM.

I shot my first match with a shmedium and just used that on my tac table. I saw no need for an attached bag personally. I’d probably go binos attached to tripod before I’d go with a flat bag setup for a little extra speed.

I don’t know anyone who attached binos to tripod and leaves them there for NRL matches, not saying it doesn’t happen, just not my limited experience. Using the binos on the bag is sufficient. Maybe things have changed since I last shot.

Running the bag and the plate or tac table separately works for sure. You don’t need a separate attached bag. Practice the technique and it gets it done.

But, there is a significant benefit for economy of motion to never have to move the bag onto the tripod before glassing or shooting. Also, it doesn’t fall off the plate if you have to move the tripod.

Ultimately, it reduces the load on the mind when dealing with all the variables. The bag doesn’t increase weight when it is filled with GitLite or poly fill.

Different strokes for different folks.

In the 12+ matches I've shot its probably over 50% with people running glass locked into tripod with something similar to a RRS Cinch. That's a no brainer in my opinion.

You can leave them locked in starting the stage, no more efficiency of motion than that. It also greatly helps for landmarking targets. Find target, lock ball head, and you're not worrying about a bag settling or jostling. Get range, mark arm band, target still in FOV, macro to micro landmarking, nothing has moved etc.

If you need to shoot off the tripod it's a quick unlatch and lock in the gun. If you're going to have a tripod you can lock your gun into I see no reason to mess with a bag and/or rear support. Completely unnecessary and very time consuming.

It’s been changing then. That’s probably faster if many are doing it.

I still try to “play the game” like I am hunting, so I have run binos on my chest.

@Lawnboi speaks truth, you can run a bag right on a big apex tripod and even on some heads. The plate is just a bit more stable.

All work, give it a go before spending bucks for sure.

Ime the small plate bags are not great at using as a singular rest option. They are a compromise. They are great if you have some rear support, like another tripod or a pack.

I’m not a great nrl shooter. I’m just another mid pack shooter, so keep that in mind…

I use a mod dos plate with some grip tape on it and a schmedium or pint sized game changer. I’ll use sand for matches but have lighter options for hunting. Iv used most of the light weight plates and any flex translates wobble.

Glassing and ranging off the bag to me is easier and faster than locked in. Plus I’m set to shoot then as well.

Here’s an example of my rifle on it. A large contact area of the schmedium, plus the bag can fully support the rifle, This allows me to put minimal muscle into the system to hold it steady, instead I just have to interface with the rifle in a torque free manner to control recoil.

I’ll use the same setup hunting. If going on a stalk or if a shot may be imminent that tripod with a bag smashed in between the legs is in my hands. Gives me a reliable platform to range off, a great shooting platform that I can follow up with quickly and without torquing the tripod. Exactly how I shot an antelope this last year.

The bigger bag is also more versatile when shooting off stumps, rocks, logs ect. A tripod is my last ditch effort at building a position mainly due to time needed to deploy. Give me a nice solid down tree or a rock and I’m happy, given the time in that situation I can use my tripod as a rear support and essentially have prone level stability and ability to control recoil.

I don’t get to shoot many matches, so it’s important to me to have something versatile, that I can use for match use, and hunting. That’s what my setup is tailored to. I also will carry the weight to have a platform that allows me to not worry about wobble so I can focus on a good trigger press.

This is very common and works great. If you can master this, it’s a great skill. His wobble comment is key.

I am not as stable as @Lawnboi technique requires, so I practice with the tripod and rear rests. If I was limited to that I would not be as comfortable or successful. I came to admit I sucked at that and had to embrace a different technique.

I’ve tended towards a standard fill schmedium for 90% of my needs. I did just get a Cole Tac stretch woobie and I think it’s going to be an awesome dedicated rear bag. I also want a AG Big Ass bag as my large isn’t quite useful to me when I’ve wanted to use it (mostly sitting).

I found the ultralight game changer to be too light to quickly position on cattle gates and small tank traps. A little extra weight helps them settle much faster in my experience.

Id definitely stay away from the flat square bags and just use a sand filed schmedium, or better yet a Wiebad fortune cookie

I’m no sniper but I have used this method with good success. I always chuckle to myself when I see guys packing around several different bags at hunter matches. I pack a used sand filled schmedium that is a little over half filled. It is heavy but works for everything I need at matches, out at the range or shooting varmints etc. I have thought about getting the next size up once this one is no longer usable but that may be a while yet. Schmedium is all you need most of the time. I carried a pint size and full size with light fill at the Oregon hunter match and never used them. They have come in handy a couple times for rear support at other matches. I usually run my binos clipped into my anvil unless it’s raining. Less time to mess with that at the beginning of a stage. I also generally prefer shooting off the anvil vs the bag off the tripod. There is little disadvantage to running a schmedium right on the apex though
