Didn’t most of us grow up in the woods with BB guns and slingshots and makeshift bows as soon as we could walk? I learned to hunt and shoot stuff long before I knew what a milrad was.

No... not everyone was able to grow up like that. There are a lot of older people taking up hunting. Even there, I grew up hunting and shooting, and learned stuff from my dad, which these days I find out was a totally wrong way to go about hunting and looking for animals.... So, no... not everyone who wants to hunt, grew up just like you....

That's a good point. It's not just about recognizing gaps in knowledge, but learning new and better ways too. A big part of my own learning with both hunting and shooting over the decades, was learning that so much of what I'd learned when young was not what I thought it was, and that it needed to be unlearned to move forward.

I think there is still value in online shooting classes. Nowhere near what you get with in person, ( for most) but still plenty of value. Depending on cost, I'd probably sign up to see some new perspectives and techniques.

I find it rather amusing from someone who proclaims himself as an expert on all things hunting and shooting. Look it up over on the Campfire, he used his same name . Then you can decide for yourself.

Yeah I read it back when I was on CF.

I guess I fail to see how something someone wrote a decade plus ago has any relevance to today.

But I also don’t hang on to the past. Nor do I go across forums to bring it up. Just seems kinda immature. But you do you.

He was a grown adult when he did that write up… from what I can tell not much has changed. Not someone I think is an expert. Others I suggest you read his elk hunting essay

Long Range Shooting Simulation

I did this program a number of years ago.

Online training for shooting can help, but is limited. Obviously it’s not going to help your recoil control, trigger manipulation, building positions, etc. Of course a video could show you what to practice, but you still have to actually get in those positions to build any real competence.

The shooter ready software above does teach you the technical aspects of learning to adjust with mils or MOA. Also teaches range estimation with mils. One thing that could be useful is the fact that you can switch between mil and MOA adjustments. So if you are on the fence about switching scope types or choosing one in the first place, you can get the experience of making adjustments with both types and then decide if you like one or the other from a on-paper/math standpoint.

I haven’t used it in a long time so i can’t say if some of it may be a bit dated now, but it helped me get some practice with range estimation, mil adjustment, and hold overs.

At the very least, it could be a good use of time while you wait on the Shoot2hunt online course to come out.

Learn to think logically and not emotionally…

It’s not heartburn. I just value the tradition and roots of hunting. This feels contrary to that, to me. It’s more ick than heartburn. Hunting is something sacred, to be passed down person to person with knowledge that was hard earned. Not learned in front of an impersonal computer screen. Again, just my take. You don’t have to like it. I respect your opinion too.

Stop putting hunting in a small box and thinking that others should share your same opinion. Hunting is different for everyone. It is their hunt and theirs alone. Some like the adventure, some love to just be in the outdoors, and some love just to kill because they can, etc. It does not affect you personally so why worry about it…
