Just a heads up the plastic tote that stid listed comes in at 69 cubic inches. Alaska airline can charge overage fees for anything over 62. However this tote meets the postal service regulations for size. But if your shipping postal it can not be over 70lbs

YK is correct. The gun case should be locked with a non-TSA lock and they should never access the case without you present.
Interesting when I flew to Alaska last year they opened my skb and looked inside while I waited that was in salt lake city. When flew home no one cared only that it meet wieght limit. Some one grandma did try and carry on fire works though. Haha miss Alaska

You're comfortable having the airline pull your gun out to verify it's unloaded and then pack it back correctly? It's easy for them to do this with a regular gun case, but not so easy in a stuffed golf bag....I'm never around when they're checking my gun, they bring it to a separate room.

That happens at the ticket counter when YOU declare it unloaded by signing a tag and putting it in the case.

That snowboard case looks like the ticket! Best bang for your buck so-to-speak. I think that is what I'm going to try? The Tuffpack looks awesome, but at a tough price point. Especially if the Sports Tube fulfills the requirements. For one rifle, boots and such the Tuffpack looks to be overkill. Thank you Mr. Stid, you always provide sound advice!

Always carry you license and tags on your person or in your carry on. My buddy made the mistake of putting his in his bow case which got lost and was delayed for several days getting to him. He ended up loosing several days of his hunt even though his partner had a spare bow with the same draw length.

That's just weird. Never had this happen on dozens of flights with weapons.

That is not true ,they do open your gun case and in some states will do it behind a closed door. TSA will ask for the key and than give it back when they are done
i have asked a representative from the airline to go in the room with TSA while they check the guns

Maybe in a smaller airport this doesnt happen but it always has happened in a larger airport to me

I have always tried to carry as much on as possible. I have to check my bow and I stuff that case full of extras, food, and stuff I just can't take on the plane. I can usually get all my essential clothing, sleeping bag, tent, ect to fit in my kuiu 7200. I then remove the lid and put all of my optics ect in the top lid and carry that like my man bag. Has always worked for me. Oh yeah you have to strap the crap out of it to make it look small!

Must be some regional variation? I've flown dozens of times through airports big, medium, and tiny and never had that happen, but it's mostly been in Alaska. Went through Portland last year the same way though with four people and a whole pile of guns, and that place is about as different from Alaska as you can get.

In Denver they take it in a room but the door remains open and you have to stand behind the line
but you can see what they are doing
they do poke around lift up the foam and check the gun case
In Newark they take it in a room and will not let you view what they are doing so I have asked the United representative to go in and make sure that they are not messing with anything and everything goes back the same way and nothing rests on the scope
