There is no "easy button" on a Wildcat, but it's not excessively technical either.
He will bed to a slave action he has and paint as well. You can get a finished product shipped.

Sounds like I am no longer correct about the lack of "easy". The option to have it bedded and painted prior to shipping wasn't available when I got mine, but I also had one of the first ones out of the mold.

I'd still probably do it myself though. It was a good winter evening project.

I don’t know, the sports match just got a lot of hype on here over the past few years, apparently they were designed by accuracy international but for whatever reason, now they are just marketed towards high end airgun users in Europe.

I doubt there is much difference between the sports match and the warns, same basic idea, clamps on to the built in dove tail and has a recoil post. I could be wrong but so the warns hold the scope with one bolt at the top of the ring or does each ring use the 4 bolt setup?

IF i remember correctly, the warnes had huge problems with reliability. Snipers hide had a bunch of threads on it. Steered me away from using them.

I posted some pictures of a Wildcat stock finishing job in this thread.

The two I've done needed some minor filler on the exterior (I used bondo) before sanding. Then cut the stock with a sharp miter saw and fit the recoil pad. Action inlet is oversize, so bedding is also basically filler. The separate recoil lug on a Tikka requires you to tack it to the action with a drop of superglue when you do the bedding. Drill and tap for the sling studs.

I also needed to sand a fair amount of the end of the barrel channel to allow sufficient free float.

My final paint job was Krylon pebbled textured paint + sponge + several clear coats. It's held up three years with no chipping or noticeable wear.

Frankly, it's a project. Winter nights are long and cold in Fairbanks so I don't mind the work. There is no "easy button" on a Wildcat, but it's not excessively technical either. The perk is the weight. I'm not aware of another Tikka stock that can touch it. A Wildcat on a SL Tikka is essentially Montana 84L weight, but without the quirks of that platform. I also prefer the fit of a Tikka stock over the Montana's. YMMV
Thats awesome. Our house is being built now so all my tools and everything are all packed up, I wonder if its more cost effective to buy a mcmillan by the time I had a wildcat done for me. I suppose I could wait a few months too but that sucks.

The cost for a McMillan stock bedded where I am is about $400 US more than a finished and bedded wildcat. Cut that down to $200 for no bed job.

Given that the Mcmillan's are the same weight or heavier than the factory stock, I cannot see the point of putting one on a sheep rifle.

good point, I hadnt even gotten as far as looking at specs. Wildcat seems like the way to go.

I like my wildcat. Next build might be with an XLR chassis though.

Anyone have any feedback on my brake choice? I am debating between the APA micro and the Answer. Does the configurable holes up top really make a differnce on the Answer?

Worth taking a look at muzzle brakes and more. His titanium brakes weigh nothing and he can customize to your liking. I have several and they tame recoil really well

I've got the Tikka T3 superlite in .308. Put a 16oz (swaro 3-18X) scope on the gun. Dropped in the lighter trigger spring. Got the 5 round mag and have 9 rounds on the stock. Gun weighs in right at 7 pounds. I reload so I load the bullets long and push velocity a bit. The gun shoots great and is almost the perfect gun for comfort, weight, accuracy. Loose the break and go get a superlite.

6.5 cm T3X lite (blued) with Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 Nightforce rings/rail and a wildcat stock. Shot 143 eldx and 140 abs well. Went with a little heavier scope after hearing about reliability issues with others on the market. Very reliable. Held zero beautifully after being knocked around in sheep country then hunting lots of timber in southeast. dials perfect every time. 7.3lbs wo ammo.

Winter project is a shoulder prefit barrel in 280ai then coat the action and barrel. Looking at shooting the 162eldx next year.

I think you'd be fine with the G2 micro. I have one on a 6.5 SAUM and it works well. The Answer is longer and has additional ports too.

I have a G3 Little bastard on a heavy comp style gun and can't say definitively how much impact the top ports have.

MBM makes good stuff too but i'm not sure they are as dialed in on the self timing brakes? I have a ti one on a 7 SAUM and it does perform very well but is not self timing and the timing has actually changed a bit somehow over time...

If you have a fast twist barrel, then I think the Answer starts making more sense.

Update on project. Got stock back and was happy with results. Bottom metal did not work out as planned so factory plastic on which is fine with me. Mounted a Leupold 3-9 and it came in at 7lbs loaded. Went to range and shot out to 660 yards with relative ease and practice holding over which is not something I am use to (usually dial). Recoil was very manageable and went straight up often allowing me to stay close to on target. At this point the brake might get axed.

Was not really digging the scope at all though. Have since remounted the SWFA 6x to get a better idea of how rifle is shooting and will validate at next range session. While I work on that am debating two different scope options to keep rifle weight at 7lbs. I need to keep scope and rings at about 16 oz.

Swaro Z3 3-10 brh - should cover me off out to 600 with good holds and 12 oz. reticle would take some getting used to.

Leupold Vx3 4.5-14 cds zl - The ability to dial is nice when needed and something I’m used to.

Look at the swaro z5 3.5X18. I have one on my tikka .308 and the turret gets me out to 650 yards. Think the scope came in right at a pound.

Final configuration. Going to leave muzzle brake off the build.

Tikka stainless 6.5 CM
Wildcat Ultralight
Lapped Talley medium rings
Swaro z3 brh

6lbs 14oz loaded
That the Z3 3-10x42 or 4-12x50? If its the 50, looks like the clearance is great with the medium talleys

Can you get the custom turret on that scope? I got one on my swaro 3.5X18 and love it. It only goes out to about 700 yards or so but that is probably more than enough for a mountain rifle.
