Toying with the idea of buying a Shaw barrel as a "trainer" barrel to help extend the life of my Carbon Six on my hunting gun. They're about $400 which makes me wonder if it'll shoot good.
Figure $400 ain't bad and I can shoot the same gun all spring and summer without worrying about having to drop another brand on a carbon pipe in the near future. Thought about going to maybe 6 GT as a trainer barrel but want to get better with understanding the 6.5 PRC.

I've put a couple dozen Shaw barrels on rifles. All have been good. Some have been pretty remarkable. They make a good barrel, IMO. In general terms they are a 1-1.5" barrel, but many of the rifles I barreled were stock otherwise. I trued the actions to some degree, barreled it and put it back in the factory stock as is.

That wouldn't be too bad then. Give up a tad bit of accuracy and just shoot more. 1 moa for a 20 shot group isn't bad at all!

Just put a Shaw 6 arc on my AR but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Just hard spending all most the cost of a new carbon barrel for a steel barrel. Like even by the time I build out a Preferred barrel it's been about $700... a new Carbon Six or brand c Carbon is about 900.

$400 for a prefit barrel? Or $400 for a blank?
400 for a prefit is a good deal.
400 for a blank...you can get any cut rifled barrel you want for that price pretty much

It's a chambered prefit.

The right answer is to just buy another carbon and shoot this one until she actually goes and not worry about it Momma said no more rifle scopes... didn't say anything about buying another carbon pipe...
