Shape charge vs 14’r

I’m looking at the shape charge or 14r for whitetail and scouting missions. Would have to be able to comfortably carry a stand and sticks with the compression straps. I have done this with other packs and it works fine for me. Would have to carry an 80mm spotter and tripod during scouting trips. Loads up to 35-40lbs absolute max but generally <25lb. The two bags just seem so similar I was wondering if anyone could help tip me one way or the other. I will have a striker at some point so just looking at the two for now. For reference I used a KUIU pro 1850 with the internal stays for this task all year and it was adequate.

I can’t speak for the shape charge but I have used the 14’r for the past 2 seasons for exactly what you describe.

I added a grab-it to help holding my lone wolf stand and lash the sticks to the stand.

most often I’m carrying a predator platform in the grab it and attaching my stick with the compression straps. I’ve added a belt pouch to each side of the bottom of the pack for my wind checker, calls, pull up rope etc.

The bag is plenty big enough and the little bit of organization inside the bag allows me to separate the things places inside vs a big dump bag idea. It’s a great pack and carries extremely well for long walks and if going to a prehung set, compresses down very nicely.

I can speak for the Shapecharge. No experience with the 14’r. The Shapecharge is smaller and carries 25 pounds pretty well. It doesn’t have load lifters like the 14’r, so the 14’r will carry a heavy load better. I switched between the Nomad on a tactical frame and the Shapecharge this year. Shapecharge works great with 4 sticks and a saddle platform. Not sure how well it would carry a stand. I’d use my tactical frame for that. To sum it up, the Shapecharge will work. The 14’r will probably be more comfortable over 25 lbs.

How much weight does a job a 14 carry comfortably? Could it carry a quartered deer?

I had a Shape Charge and while I loved it, with the internal frame sheet and stays plus a Sherman pouch it weighed almost as much as my Tarryall but less support and no lift. For more weight I would for sure go with the 14'r, Shape charge felt like more of a small daypack

How are you guys carrying your rifle or bow on these packs? A Sherman pocket or some other way?

What is a “predator platform?” Is it a tree stand named that or is it a particular stand that you use for calling predators from?

The predator platform is kind of a tree stand. It’s used with a tree saddle. Basically a 1 foot by 1 foot platform that you stand on in a tree. Made by Tethrd.
